Job Position: Management Accountant

Job Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Job Description

  1. The Management Accountant holds a very vital and strategic role in the company. This position is expected to provide essential Financial Governance, Finance and Accounting management, Control and Reporting, General Administration, Legal and Tax services to the company’s operations in compliance with global best practices, policies, systems and procedures as laid down by GVE operational procedures.
  2. The Management Accountant’s key responsibility is to work closely with the CFO and the executive management in developing new opportunities aimed at increasing footprint in the sector. Over the next years, (he/she) needs to develop and position the company as an international leader in the sector offering increased company’s valuation and upscale investor’s interest.  In addition, the Management Accountant will provide guidance and support and ensure local implementation of the company’s corporate compliance programme.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Providing leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team
  2. Effectively contribute to the strategic vision and tactical execution to drive revenue growth, profitability, and capital base.
  3. Providing strategic financial guidance and recommendations to the team
  4. Effectively Support fundraising rounds/investment engagements/ negotiations and providing professional financial advice and recommendations to the team.
  5. Managing the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting

The Management Accountant is actively responsible for:

  1. Determine financing needs for debt and/or equity financing. Responsible for completion of and compliance with all term financing deals, including equipment / asset financing and lease arrangements.
  2. Lead roles in analyses and completion of investments, finance-rounds, acquisitions and mergers
  3. Leads financial analyses of investment opportunities (equity, loan, grants, angel investors), projects financing and acquisitions targets
  4. Prepares proposals and terms sheets for investments opportunities
  5. Lead role in due diligence of investment rounds
  6. Provide finance leadership in the negotiation of legal and other transactional agreements / documents to suit GVE’s best interest
  7. Keep all accounting records in correct order, up to date, and ensure that financial records are maintained in compliance with all procedures of the company
  8. Manage the payables process and receipts and deposits of cash & bank transactions
  9. Execute remittances for PAYE tax, VAT, and other tax responsibilities.
  10. Ensure the smooth operation of bookkeeping and record transactions onto accounting softwares, in conjunction with preparing bank and petty cash reconciliation.
  11. Advise management on any irregularities observed in record keeping and asset control
  12. Perform internal audits.
  13. Conduct a continuous review of all reconciliations, payments and helps in maintaining the proper documentation for further compliance reviews.
  14. Coordinates external and other regulatory compliance reviews.
  15. Maintain relationships with several internal business stakeholders to understand the business.
  16. Prepare reports based on audit results and present internal audit reports to the board.
  17. Promote the highest standards of ethics across the organization.
  18. Provide continuous review to all department staff and help them with control inputs in performance and development in line with the organization’s goals, objectives, and policies.
  19. Perform all such other related duties as the Company may require from time to time

Account Payable and Receivable:

  1. Responsible for sending out invoices to clients.
  2. Ensure timely follow-up on invoices sent out to clients.
  3. Manage accounts receivable and cash application functions to ensure timely and accurate recording, collection, reconciliation and reporting of accounts receivable.
  4. Work closely with Commercial, Sales, Operations, and inventory control team to ensure discrepancies and payment delinquencies are resolved on a timely basis.
  5. Reconcile general ledger accounts related to accounts receivable.
  6. Updating of Cashflow forecast in ERP and providing weekly updates to management
  7. Partner with cross functional teams to share best practices and improve communication and procedures
  8. Track account transactions and resolution of issues.
  9. Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external business partners
  10. Oversee routine departmental activities of account payable
  11. Maintain accurate and complete financial employee and client records
  12. Prepare analysis of accounts and generate monthly reports.
  13. Monitor vendor payments and timely receipt of outstanding credit
  14. Build and maintain relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.
  15. Supervision of advance payment made to vendor

Tax and Audit:

  1. Prepare tax returns, payments, necessary paperwork, and reports.
  2. Assess and research difficult tax issues to identify solutions.
  3. Manage and maintain the company’s tax database.
  4. Determine tax savings and recommend strategies to improve profits.
  5. Ensure compliance with regulations by forwarding required information to federal, state, and local authorities.
  6. Offer support and guidance during audits.
  7. Evaluate tax regulations and suggest policies that diminish tax burden.
  8. Keep track of industry trends and changes related to taxes.
  9. Prepare accurate quarterly and annual tax reports.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Financial management or related field. (Masters’ degree is a plus).
  • 10 years of relevant experience in Investment banking, project driven engineering enterprise, portfolio management or related field and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint (ERP (ZOHO) is a plus)
  • ICAN, ACCA or related qualifications will be an added advantage
