Job Position: Core Network Specialist (Tier-2 / Simple Facilities Operator)

Job Location: Lagos

Job Responsibilities
Core Network Operations:

  1. Monitor, operate, and maintain the core network infrastructure (IPMPLS routers, GMSC, SBC, MGW/BGF, MME, STP/DRA, SGSN/GGSN, SMSC etc.), including switches, routers, gateways, and servers.
  2. Ensure the availability, performance, and capacity of the core network elements, adhering to service level agreements (SLAs) and quality of service (QoS) requirements.
  3. Perform routine checks, inspections, and system audits to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
  4. Respond to network incidents and outages, troubleshoot and diagnose problems, and implement timely resolutions.
  5. Collaborate with other teams, such as network engineering, to implement network changes, upgrades, and enhancements.

Network Performance and Optimization:

  1. Analyze network performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement.
  2. Conduct capacity planning exercises and provide recommendations to ensure optimal network performance and scalability.
  3. Optimize network configurations and parameters to enhance efficiency, reduce latency, and improve user experience.
  4. Implement and maintain network monitoring and management tools to proactively monitor the core network’s health and performance.
  5. Participate in network performance testing and benchmarking activities.

Network Security and Resilience:

  1. Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection systems, to protect the core network against cyber threats.
  2. Collaborate with the security team to identify vulnerabilities and implement appropriate security patches and upgrades.
  3. Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure business continuity in the event of network failures or disasters.

Collaboration and Communication:

  1. Collaborate and liaise with the engineering team of the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) to ensure seamless integration and interoperability between the MVNO’s core network and the MNO’s infrastructure.
  2. Coordinate network integration activities, including interconnection testing, service provisioning, and network interworking.
  3. Work closely with the MNO engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues that may arise during interconnection or service delivery.
  4. Communicate effectively with the MNO engineering team to exchange technical information, resolve conflicts, and ensure alignment on network design and configuration.
  5. Participate in regular meetings and discussions with the MNO engineering team to exchange knowledge, share updates, and address any operational challenges.
  6. Please note that the ability to liaise with the MNO engineering team is an essential aspect of the Core Network Specialist role in a Tier-2 or Simple Facilities Operator context.

Documentation and Reporting:

  1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of the core network infrastructure, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
  2. Prepare regular reports on network performance, capacity utilization, incident management, and maintenance activities.
  3. Provide timely updates and status reports to the management team on network-related projects, initiatives, and issues.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience (2 – 4 years) working with core network technologies in a Tier-2 or Simple Facilities Operator environment or MNO environment.
  3. In-depth knowledge of core network protocols and technologies, including IP/MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS-VPN, VPLS, L2/L3 VPN, and QoS.
  4. Familiarity with mobile network architecture, including GSM, GPRS, 3G, 4G/LTE, and VoLTE.
  5. Hands-on experience with core network equipment, such as routers, switches, gateways, and servers.
  6. Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools.
  7. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex network issues.
  8. Knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
  9. Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  10. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  11. Certifications such as CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or equivalent are highly desirable.
