Job Position: Senior Process Designer

Job Location: Lagos

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assists business development activities by maintaining an up to date personal profile and resume.
  2. Builds positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors.
  3. Supports proposals by developing the discipline execution strategy, estimating costs, writing proposal content, and presenting to customers.
  4. May be called upon to lead all or part of the technical proposal.

Business Operations:

  1. Supports the business by communicating team resource loading and skill requirements to a direct supervisor or the Discipline Manager.
  2. Ensures the project work is covered for vacation and unplanned absences. Mentors/trains and supports the delivery of training.
  3. Assists in the employee performance review process.
  4. Facilitates coverage of activities when people leave the team.
  5. Encourages knowledge of and compliance with requirements and processes. Works to resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and customer issues.
  6. Ensures discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.

Technical Competency:

  1. Ensures team member adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
  2. Supports the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates.
  3. Contributes to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful.
  4. Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence.
  5. Supports checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.

Project Execution:

  1. May participate in project execution strategy and planning.
  2. Knows the project and discipline scope/cost/time requirements, assists the team to meet expectations, and coordinates with other disciplines to ensure project success. Implements innovative solutions, technology advances, and methods to effectively deal with working out of sequence.
  3. Supports management of project change and progressing for the discipline and works with the Project Management Team to take corrective actions regarding any issues, staffing requirements, scope changes, progressing, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability.
  4. Plans discipline quality, monitors quality activities, drives and participates in squad checking, recommends improvements, and takes action where required.

Project Deliverables:

  1. Gathers data from multiple sources and prepares engineering studies, analyses, calculations, etc.
  2. Crafts recommendations and creates final documentation.
  3. Determines technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros/cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc.
  4. Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues customer approval.
  5. May review similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports.

Procurement Support :

  1. Incorporates information from multiple sources into equipment/material specifications, data sheets, testing requirements, and material requisitions.
  2. Participates in bid clarifications, conducts bid evaluations, completes inter-discipline vendor information review and approval, and finalizes other certification activities.
  3. Reviews similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports.

Site Support:

  1. Seeks input from knowledgeable sources, participates in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews, and ensures that requirements are incorporated into engineering/design. Works with site personnel to resolve issues.
  2. May create plans or documents that supports construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning.
  3. May provide or lead on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turn over.

Global Level Details:

  1. Senior level position with advanced knowledge and a specialized depth or breadth of expertise, gaining a mastery of a single areas or multiple broader areas of specialty, product, and systems.
  2. May also lead small groups in projects or teams.

Job Requirements

  1. Awarded a 2 or 3 year technical diploma with discipline specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. Trained in leadership and project execution. Will be actively licensed with a local governing body where required by law.

Qualifications, Accreditation, Training (Desirable):

  • Training in risk management or quality.

Job Specific Knowledge / Experience (Essential):

  1. Typically has 5+ years of relevant discipline experience.
  2. Has a competent understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.

Decision Making:

  1. Empowered to make responsible decisions.
  2. Difficult, complex or unusual decisions are usually referred to more senior discipline members.

Supervision Received:

  1. Works with self-initiated interaction with supervisor and self-initiated technical guidance.
  2. Broad duties assigned at beginning of projects.
  3. Work is assigned in terms of objectives, relative priorities, and critical areas that impinge on work of other units.
  4. Work is reviewed to ensure policy conformity and soundness of approach.  I
  5. nformed guidance is available.

Supervision Authority:

  1. Typically up to 10 direct reports consisting of less senior engineers and designers within the same discipline but could include total team size much greater than this with supporting coordination.
  2. May have authority for performance evaluations impacting pay.
  3. Communication Strong ability to Inform and persuade on complex matters through preparation and delivery of proposals, presentations and reports, as well as collaboration with stakeholders and management.

Systems & Tools (Essential):

  1. Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  2. Can navigate intranet pages, conduct searches, and retrieve information.
  3. Can organize information from many sources and retain as per the prescribed format and policies.

Systems & Tools (Desirable):

  1. Competent in Microsoft Access and PowerPoint.
  2. Able to touch type. Proficient in specialty engineering or design tools, analytics and modelling, and cross-discipline data centric methods.

  1. Assume hands-on management and implementation of all relevant company HSE requirements.
  2. Drive Safe and Sustainable engineering outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle via the application of SEAL.
