Job Position: AVP, Risk & Compliance Operations

Job Description

  1. As AVP, Risk & Compliance Operations at Flutterwave, you will play a critical role in our mission to ensure financial integrity and regulatory compliance.
  2. You will lead teams responsible for monitoring accounts and transactions to detect and reduce risks such as fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing.
  3. Your role will involve developing and implementing transaction monitoring strategies using analytics and technology to identify suspicious patterns.
  4. Collaboration with internal stakeholders to strengthen anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls is also critical.
  5. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of transaction monitoring methods within the card payments industry, and a commitment to upholding high regulatory compliance standards.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive risk management policies, procedures, and controls to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the organization’s various areas.
  2. Lead a team of managers, analysts, and specialists. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team complies with regulatory requirements and follows industry best practices.
  3. Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls and recommend enhancements to mitigate emerging risks.
  4. Establish strong relationships with regulatory agencies, industry partners, and internal stakeholders to stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends.
  5. Manage regulatory examinations and audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries and findings.
  6. Implement risk monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track key risk indicators and provide timely insights to senior management.
  7. Conduct recurring reviews and assessments of transaction monitoring controls, procedures, and workflows, identifying areas for enhancement and implementing remedial actions as needed.
  8. Implement and maintain monitoring metrics and performance indicators to track effectiveness and efficiency.
  9. Collaborate with product teams to enhance system controls, integrate new features, and ensure compliance by design.
  10. Prepare and present periodic reports to senior management, highlighting key trends, insights, and risk mitigation strategies.
  11. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Compliance, Risk Management, Legal, and Operations, to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and industry standards.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFE, CAMS, CFCS) is preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in financial services, focusing on transaction monitoring, AML compliance, or fraud detection.
  • Deep understanding of AML/CTF regulations, including Nigerian regulatory requirements and international standards.
  • Passion for driving continuous improvement and innovation in transaction monitoring practices.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify emerging risks, evaluate their potential impact, and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
