Job Description
- As AVP, Risk & Compliance Operations at Flutterwave, you will play a critical role in our mission to ensure financial integrity and regulatory compliance.
- You will lead teams responsible for monitoring accounts and transactions to detect and reduce risks such as fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing.
- Your role will involve developing and implementing transaction monitoring strategies using analytics and technology to identify suspicious patterns.
- Collaboration with internal stakeholders to strengthen anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls is also critical.
- The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of transaction monitoring methods within the card payments industry, and a commitment to upholding high regulatory compliance standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive risk management policies, procedures, and controls to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the organization’s various areas.
- Lead a team of managers, analysts, and specialists. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team complies with regulatory requirements and follows industry best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls and recommend enhancements to mitigate emerging risks.
- Establish strong relationships with regulatory agencies, industry partners, and internal stakeholders to stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends.
- Manage regulatory examinations and audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries and findings.
- Implement risk monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track key risk indicators and provide timely insights to senior management.
- Conduct recurring reviews and assessments of transaction monitoring controls, procedures, and workflows, identifying areas for enhancement and implementing remedial actions as needed.
- Implement and maintain monitoring metrics and performance indicators to track effectiveness and efficiency.
- Collaborate with product teams to enhance system controls, integrate new features, and ensure compliance by design.
- Prepare and present periodic reports to senior management, highlighting key trends, insights, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Compliance, Risk Management, Legal, and Operations, to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and industry standards.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFE, CAMS, CFCS) is preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in financial services, focusing on transaction monitoring, AML compliance, or fraud detection.
- Deep understanding of AML/CTF regulations, including Nigerian regulatory requirements and international standards.
- Passion for driving continuous improvement and innovation in transaction monitoring practices.
- Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify emerging risks, evaluate their potential impact, and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
