Overview
Northwest University, Kano is a Nigerian public university owned by the Kano State Government. It has two campuses: City Campus located at Kofar Nassarawa Kano, and the main campus located along General Muhammadu Buhari Way Kofar Ruwa Kano.
According to the provisions of section 4 sub-section 3(a) of the second schedule of Northwest University Law (2024) as amended, the Governing Council of the University invites Applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position below, which shall be vacant with effect from 15th October, 2025:

Job Responsibilities
- The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University and shall be the Chairman of the Senate and a member of the Council. Among his/her functions, the Vice-Chancellor shall:
- Be responsible to the Governing Council on any matter concerning the policy, finance, and administration of the University;
- Be responsible to the Governing Council for maintaining the efficiency and good order of the University and to ensure the proper enforcement of Law, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations;
- Be responsible for discipline among staff and students of the University;
- Regulate admissions of students per the guidelines and procedures approved by the Senate and other regulatory agencies, etc.
Job Qualifications and Qualities
The candidate for the post of the Vice-Chancellor is required to possess a good University education and should be a good manager of human and material resources, specifically the candidate should:

- Be a person who possesses academic qualifications with a Ph.D and who is vast in his/her area of specialisation;
- Be a university lecturer on the rank of Professor for at least 3 years;
- Be a person of impeccable character and proven integrity with a commitment to best practices in university governance.
- Be a person of good accountability, transparency, probity, and must be free from pecuniary embarrassment or a history of misconduct.
- Be a person with a wide academic and administrative experience at a reputable university, and be capable of giving dynamic academic and administrative leadership.
- Be able to engender both national and international respect, particularly in the academic world;
- Possess the ability to create the needed harmony between staff and students on the one hand and the wider community on the other;
- Be a person with a clear vision and capacity to pursue the continuous development of the University even under resource constraints.
- Be a person who appreciates and acts on merit and who will resist undue pressure;
- Be a person of integrity, moral character, sound and mental physical health;
- Be a person prepared to demonstrate commitment to the University’s vision, mission and core values, as well as the pursuit of its strategic objectives;
- Be a person who is not older than 65 years at the point of assumption of duty as Vice-Chancellor; and
- Possesses evidence of appreciable computer skills as well as the ability to embrace information and communications technology.
Conditions of Service
- The Vice-Chancellor shall serve for a single term of five years.
- The remunerations shall be as obtained in Nigerian universities or as approved by the Council, from time to time.

Interested and qualified candidates should submit 25 copies of the statement of the candidate’s vision for the University in the twenty-first century and accompanied by 25 copies of their current Curriculum Vitae, duly signed and dated by the candidate, highlighting among others, the following:

- Professional and academic achievements and any other relevant information. A candidate shall enclose copies of all relevant credentials to support the application.
- Names and addresses of three referees; each to testify about the candidate’s academic standing, moral character, integrity and work experience.
