Job Position: Head, Mechanical Engineering Unit
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Description

  1. This candidate will be responsible for the effective management of Automation Projects and the training of the Robotics and Automation curriculum in the classroom and laboratory setting.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assist in developing and updating curriculum and laboratory projects on some of the following topics:
  2. Managing Automation Projects
  3. Programmable Logic Controllers
  4. Ladder Logic
  5. Industry 4.0
  6. Industrial Networking
  7. Electricity/ Electronics
  8. Automation
  9. Manufacturing
  10. Autodesk Inventor
  11. Troubleshooting Methods
  12. Instrumentation and Controls
  13. C Programming
  14. Vision Systems
  15. Conduct classroom and shop training utilising proper instructional techniques, practices and following the approved curriculum
  16. Utilise equipment and training aids in daily lessons
  17. Report all damaged or missing instructional equipment
  18. Ensure that classroom and shop areas are kept clean, orderly and promote a learning environment
  19. Maintain and record student attendance and grades
  20. Prepare class lessons and tests promptly
  21. Design training aids and mock-ups in the area of the instructor’s expertise
  22. Administer tests and make-up tests per the MIAT procedures manual
  23. Ensure that students follow all established policies, procedures, and safety practices
  24. Ensure that a professional training environment is always maintained in the classroom and shop areas
  25. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education or Assistant Director of Education.

Job Qualifications
Education:

  1. Associate Degree required
  2. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Performance Standards

  1. Instructors will be evaluated on their ability to promote and implement the objectives of the school
  2. Ensure that the curriculum is adhered to and delivered with motivation and enthusiasm
  3. Proper monitoring of all equipment, supplies and tools to ensure the safety of the students and staff on projects
  4. Ensure that student morale is maintained at a high level
  5. Maintain a good standing on student and lab equipment evaluations
  6. All internal and external reports and forms have been accurately completed and submitted in a timely fashion
  7. Maintain an annual average of 95% student retention
  8. Instructor evaluations will be done twice a year by management
  9. Instructors’ evaluations will be done by students every quarter.

Experience:

  1. 10 years of prior experience in the field required
  2. 5 years of prior experience in training preferred
  3. Autodesk Inventor experience preferred
  4. Programmable Logic Control experience preferred
  5. Industrial Networking experience is a plus.

Competences and Skills

  1. Ability to teach students of various ages and diverse backgrounds
  2. Effectively Manage Automation Projects
  3. Able to work productively and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills
  5. Excellent customer service skills
  6. Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word and Excel required)
  7. Must be able to deal responsibly with confidential information
  8. Must be personable, energetic and have a customer service orientation
  9. Must be self-motivated
  10. Must be able to work alone or with a team.

Working Conditions:

  1. A majority of time is spent in an educational environment
  2. Work will consist of an 8-hour day, 75% teaching and 25% administration
  3. Appropriate safety measures must be followed
  4. Exposure to chemicals that are standard to the industry.
