Job Position: Head, Mechanical Engineering Unit
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Job Description
- This candidate will be responsible for the effective management of Automation Projects and the training of the Robotics and Automation curriculum in the classroom and laboratory setting.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and updating curriculum and laboratory projects on some of the following topics:
- Managing Automation Projects
- Programmable Logic Controllers
- Ladder Logic
- Industry 4.0
- Industrial Networking
- Electricity/ Electronics
- Automation
- Manufacturing
- Autodesk Inventor
- Troubleshooting Methods
- Instrumentation and Controls
- C Programming
- Vision Systems
- Conduct classroom and shop training utilising proper instructional techniques, practices and following the approved curriculum
- Utilise equipment and training aids in daily lessons
- Report all damaged or missing instructional equipment
- Ensure that classroom and shop areas are kept clean, orderly and promote a learning environment
- Maintain and record student attendance and grades
- Prepare class lessons and tests promptly
- Design training aids and mock-ups in the area of the instructor’s expertise
- Administer tests and make-up tests per the MIAT procedures manual
- Ensure that students follow all established policies, procedures, and safety practices
- Ensure that a professional training environment is always maintained in the classroom and shop areas
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education or Assistant Director of Education.
Job Qualifications
Education:
- Associate Degree required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Performance Standards
- Instructors will be evaluated on their ability to promote and implement the objectives of the school
- Ensure that the curriculum is adhered to and delivered with motivation and enthusiasm
- Proper monitoring of all equipment, supplies and tools to ensure the safety of the students and staff on projects
- Ensure that student morale is maintained at a high level
- Maintain a good standing on student and lab equipment evaluations
- All internal and external reports and forms have been accurately completed and submitted in a timely fashion
- Maintain an annual average of 95% student retention
- Instructor evaluations will be done twice a year by management
- Instructors’ evaluations will be done by students every quarter.
Experience:
- 10 years of prior experience in the field required
- 5 years of prior experience in training preferred
- Autodesk Inventor experience preferred
- Programmable Logic Control experience preferred
- Industrial Networking experience is a plus.
Competences and Skills
- Ability to teach students of various ages and diverse backgrounds
- Effectively Manage Automation Projects
- Able to work productively and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word and Excel required)
- Must be able to deal responsibly with confidential information
- Must be personable, energetic and have a customer service orientation
- Must be self-motivated
- Must be able to work alone or with a team.
Working Conditions:
- A majority of time is spent in an educational environment
- Work will consist of an 8-hour day, 75% teaching and 25% administration
- Appropriate safety measures must be followed
- Exposure to chemicals that are standard to the industry.
