Job Position: Senior Accountant
Location: Lekki, Lagos

Job Description

  1. The Senior Accountant will be primarily responsible for the planning, implementation, management and running of all the finance activities of the company and all associated or affiliated companies, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting and negotiations.
  2. The Senior Accountant must display cohesive ability in interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  3. They must be able to engage with staff at all levels of the organisation and exercise sound judgment.
  4. Suitable candidates should also have excellent financial reconciliatory skills and experience in managing time-bound rolling commitments.
  5. The staff must be capable of taking full responsibility for the following duties: either performing these him/herself or in a supervising role: Bookkeeping and monthly reporting under IFRS in line with deadlines.
  6. Analysing actual versus budgeted results (in general and for events) and providing advice to the general manager, senior management and the board on possible improvements
  7. Preparing all monthly, quarterly and yearly tax reports and ensuring that necessary filings and payments are done on time
  8. Perform treasury functions, including handling and controlling payments to vendors, and handling of cash
  9. Perform monthly staff payroll/ tax deductions and all related calculations
  10. Perform Weekly /monthly bank reconciliations and analysis of FOREX gains/losses.
  11. Supervising and performing monthly or end-of-year stock takings/inventory valuation, where applicable
  12. Setting up and maintaining policies and procedures, including requirements on controls and documentation for management
  13. Managing the external audit and ensuring that it is completed on time
  14. Managing the company assets register.
  15. Ensuring that insurance cover for all assets is adequate and is in line with organisational requirements
  16. Working with team members and the general manager to complete any other duties as may be required
  17. Demonstrated understanding of the process workflow related to work requests from initiation through completion.
  18. Consistently demonstrating teamwork dynamics by working as a team member; understanding individual and team roles; contributing to a positive working environment by building solid relationships with team members; and proactively seeking guidance, clarification and feedback.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Filing of PAYE annual returns
  2. Collection of the WHT credit note receipt
  3. Process Electronic Tax Clearance certificates
  4. Compute and remit PAYE and VAT as and when due
  5. Deduction of Withholding Tax from any contract awarded or from suppliers, and remitting the same to either FIRS or State IRS.
  6. Prepare monthly outstanding WHT Credit Notes
  7. Represent the company on Tax matters with FIRS and the relevant State IRS
  8. Prepare monthly project accounts, posting of payment vouchers, including international monetary transfers and maintaining P & L Schedules on the Sage 50 Accounting software
  9. Providing leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team
  10. Providing strategic recommendations to the Project Business Managers and members of the executive management team
  11. Establishing and developing relations with senior management and external partners, and stakeholders
  12. Reconciling and prompt remittance of intercompany payments and international funds transfer
  13. Managing the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting.
  14. Advising on long-term business and financial planning
  15. Prepare various federal and state income tax returns.
  16. Assist in federal and state tax audits.
  17. Keep abreast of current developments in the tax area, foreign exchange and forex trading
  18. Perform all other assigned projects as assigned by the Managing Director
  19. Manage all foreign exchange transactions, including currency conversion, hedging strategies, and risk management.
  20. Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and reporting requirements for foreign exchange transactions.
  21. Monitor and optimise currency conversion rates for international operations.
  22. Maintain accurate records of all foreign exchange transactions and reconcile discrepancies.
  23. Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
  24. Stay up-to-date with market trends, economic events, and regulatory changes that can impact foreign exchange rates.
  25. Assist in preparing financial reports, budgets, and forecasts related to foreign exchange activities.
  26. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in foreign exchange operations.
  27. Support internal and external audits related to foreign exchange transactions.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

  1. Timely processing and collection of ETCC for staff
  2. Timely submission of monthly, quarterly and end-of-year financial reports
  3. Timely remittance of PAYE, WHT, and VAT
  4. Accurate computation of WHT, VAT, and PAYE
  5. Timely securing of FIRS tax clearance, ITF, educational and other regulatory licences.

Qualifications

  1. Academic Qualification – M.Sc. / B.Sc. / BA in Accounting with a Professional Certificate: Chartered Institute Of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA).
  2. Experience – Applicant must possess 5 – 8 years experience working experience.
  3. Great knowledge of accounting systems (Access Dimensions, QuickBooks, SAGE, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
  4. Strong knowledge of internal control principles, operational risk evaluation.
