Nomba, launched in 2017 as “Kudi.ai”, is a chatbot that responds to financial requests on social apps. Nomba has since evolved to empower independent businesses to act as neighbourhood banks offering basic financial services such as cash withdrawal, transfer and bill payments to all Nigerians, especially those in underserved communities. Today, we process more than $500m in payments monthly.

Job Position: Backend Engineer
Location: Lagos

Job Responsibilities
We are currently looking to hire a Backend Engineer to join our growing team. Here’s what your day-to-day will look like:

  1. Architect, design and develop mobile products.
  2. Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements to existing mobile services.
  3. Manage Junior Engineers, providing mentoring, code reviews, architectural design, etc.
  4. Perform a performance review on direct reports and report details to the line manager.
  5. Take full responsibility for products while they are in development and for issues that arise when they are in use.
  6. You will work across different technology stacks and languages (mainly with a focus on Java and NodeJS);
  7. You will have an end-to-end responsibility of many services from design to deployment;
  8. You will join a fast-paced team of engineers.
  9. You will be a point of call for technical matters.

Requirements

  1. At least 5 years of experience developing in Java (Springboot or Dropwizard frameworks) & NodeJS in the industry
  2. At least 5 years of experience developing with MongoDB or MySQL
  3. Strong affinity for technical design, testing and system architecture
  4. Experience working with containers
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills
  6. Strong System Architecture Design skills
  7. Knowledge of fundamental computing topics, e.g. networking, databases, concurrency, parallelism, locking, algorithms, data structures, performance monitoring, optimisation, etc
  8. Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, e.g DDD, TDD
  9. Ability to work autonomously and lead technically
  10. Great communication skills
  11. Ability to take initiative and get stuff done.
