Job Description

  • To manage and oversee the business seed production process and establish demonstration plots through strategic planning, coordinating, and supervise harvesting with out-growers, in achieving the business annual targets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare and plan seed production schedules in accordance with seed production targets indicated by management for the year.
  • Coordinate screening and selection of out-growers for seasonal seed production activities.
  • Coordinate seed logistics activities to ensure accurate records and movement of seeds.
  • Negotiate, sign and manage contracts with contract growers and processors involved in the seed production value chain.
  • Supervise and participate in planting, rogueing, detasseling, and harvesting as well as provide technical support on recommended agricultural practices.
  • Monitor and ensure quality control standards for production of breeder, foundation and certified seeds.
  • Keep detailed records of seed production inputs, farm management practices, outputs and stock delivery.
  • Establish demonstration plots in strategic locations to increase seed adoption.

Job Requirements

  • HND or BSc. in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agricultural economics or related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years cognate experience.
  • Experiences in market intelligence will be an added advantage.

The Person Must:

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of soil and crop principles.
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills.
  • Be able to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Pay high attention to details.
