The Position
Taste & Wellbeing Food/Application Technologist (Sweet Goods & Savoury) for West Africa region:

  • Work as a Food / Application Technologist with the global leader in the creation of Taste & Wellbeing and Fragrance  & Beauty, and a key member of our Regional Taste & Wellbeing Creation & Application team leading the Sweet Goods & Savoury categories and supporting our customers in the West Africa region, while being based in our Lagos, Nigeria office.

  1. The Taste & Wellbeing Creation and Application (T&WCA) organisation within Givaudan is at the forefront to discover and develop new innovative ingredients and flavours for all kinds of food applications focussing on the Beverages, Sweet Goods, Dairy, Bakery, Snacks, Savoury, Natural, and other exciting categories.
  2. We are a truly global organisa-tion consisting of multidisciplinary experts from science, creation, application, and sensory science.
  3. Application Technologist’s in Givaudan are specialists whose primary goal is to support customers by providing them with suitable flavours for their applications and guiding Flavourist’s in the flavour development process.
  4. To do so, Application Technologists analyse current flavour trends, forecast future trends, and assess consumer preferences and apply flavours to end applications.
  5. We are currently expanding the T&WCA team and hiring a ‘Food/Application Technologist’ to focus on the Sweet Goods & Savoury categories for the West Africa region, which includes key markets in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory coast, guinea and others.
  6. Reporting to the Taste & Wellbeing Sales Manager – Nigeria / Ghana based in our regional office in Lagos, you will be a key player in our T&W WA team.

Job Responsibilities
You will mainly be responsible for:

  1. You will be evaluating and applying flavours in food applications for Sweet Goods & Savoury, including bakery, confectionery, sauces, soups, and noodles, and selecting the optimal flavours for customer projects in WA.
  2. You will contribute to our business growth by continuously demonstrating to our customers in WA the use and benefits of our flavours in Sweet Goods & Savoury applications.
  3. You will proactively and reactively work on inter-nal and customer briefs and develop bold ideas to help our customers bring consumer preferred and differentiating products to the market.
  4. You will work for a company that touches billions of consumers more than a hundred times a day.

Management of daily customer brief:

  1. You will execute daily brief related tasks including flavour selection, product evaluation, and application development.
  2. You will develop and standardize savoury/SG applications during flavour development for customer briefs and translate market trends into innovative product concepts where culinary inspiration is needed.
  3. You will lead evaluations of flavours in food applications for briefs, research projects and portfolio evaluations.
  4. You will select optimal flavours for projects according to specified requirements (i.e. customer, regulatory, leg-islation, cost) and suggest improvements for the most common applications.
  5. You will identify appropriate flavour delivery systems and technologies for customer projects in specific applications and maintain the flavour performance data for the flavour portfolio through evaluation in finished product and capture of profiles

Customer Experience:

  1. You will manage technical customer communication to achieve a positive outcome of projects and organize workshops and innovation days at customers and at Givaudan; prepare and present to customers and our teams high-quality culinary dishes using our wide range of product offerings.
  2. You will work with our customers to improve/Optimize their recipes and act as technical expert and advisor to marketing, sales, flavour creation, and customers for savoury/SG applications

Manage Organizational Effectiveness:

  • You will maintain a safe, clean and organized lab environment in accordance with EH&S policies and hold others accountable for following these guidelines

Job Requirements
Your professional profile includes:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree in Food Science, Pharmacy, Science (Chemistry, biology).
  2. 3+ years of experience in a food applications lab, production, or related area (sweet goods or savoury segment preferred).
  3. Excellent project management and presentation skills.
  4. Experience in industrial product development and leading customer projects
  5. Strong oral and written proficiency in the English language. Proficiency in additional languages like French will be advantageous.
  6. Understanding of food applications, ingredients, and processes with practical experience in customers’ food manufacturing environment.
  7. Understanding of basic food ingredients when used in application.
  8. A team player and comfortable with diversity.
  9. Able and willing to travel to support customers in the West Africa region when required. (~10-20% of the time).
