Job position: Commodity Sales Manager
Location: Lagos

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and result-driven commodity sales manager with deep industry knowledge and a proven track record in rice, margarine, or both product segments.  The ideal candidate will play a critical role in driving strategic sales initiatives, expanding market share, and managing key B2B and B2C customer relationships across Nigeria.  This role requires a high-performing individual with commercial acumen, market insight, and leadership ability within the commodity or FMCG sector.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement sales strategies for rice, margarine, or both products to achieve volume, value, and profitability targets.
  2. Identify and expand distribution networks across open markets, modern trade, HORECA, and institutional channels.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesalers, distributors, key accounts, and bulk buyers across Nigeria.
  4. Conduct market analysis, competitor benchmarking, and pricing strategy to ensure competitive positioning.
  5. Collaborate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure product availability and timely delivery.
  6. Lead, train, and manage the sales team, setting performance metrics and ensuring achievement of KPIs.
  7. Drive new business development and explore export opportunities within West Africa (if applicable).
  8. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, trade policies, and internal SOPs.
  9. Prepare and present monthly and quarterly sales reports to senior management.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in business, Marketing, agriculture, or a related field (an MBA is a plus).
  2. 5–10 years of proven experience in sales or commercial roles within the rice, margarine, or edible commodity sector.
  3. Solid network and understanding of Nigeria’s commodity market landscape.
  4. Strong negotiation, leadership, and communication skills.
  5. Ability to analyse data, forecast demand, and implement strategic sales plans.
  6. Willingness to travel frequently across Nigeria.

Skills & Competencies

  1. Existing network of clients and distributors in the rice or margarine industry.
  2. Experience in managing large sales volumes and leading diverse teams.
  3. Entrepreneurial mindset with a deep understanding of market trends and customer behaviour.
  4. Proficiency in MS Office and CRM tools.
