CBM is an International Christian Development Organization, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world. CBM provides grants sourced from private and institutional donors to local partners, who subsequently implement the grants on the basis of contracts signed with CBM detailing implementation, accounting, and reporting standards. In this set-up, CBM Country Offices (CO) perform control and monitoring procedures aimed at partner projects; control reports from implementing partners to CBM, including comparison with original source documents, project contract and cost plans; and ensure compliance with organizational and statutory requirements.

Job Position: Communication Officer

Job Location: Abuja

Job Responsibilities

  1. The Communication officer will be responsible for leading the implementation of the communications strategy and systems for the country office in lin with CBM International requirements.
  2. Lead the development of CBM International Nigeria country programme’s communication and visibility strategy and plan in line with CBM’s and the donor’s communication policies and procedures, with guidance from the Communication team at the regional and International offices.
  3. Support in the development of external and internal materials on methods related to the activity and edit communication materials, memos, and other analytical documents;
  4. Assist in communications plans for a variety of stakeholder groups, create relevant messaging and materials, and implement communications strategies in line with the the CBM communication guielines and other project branding guidelines;
  5. Support in developing and maintaining CBM International social media platforms (if applicable), to promote internet-based knowledge sharing for the country office and its projects;
  6. Develop and deliver appropriate training programs, workshops, forums, and other public outreach campaigns to raise awareness of CBM International interventions in Nigeria
  7. Coordinate marketing and promotion of the CBM International’s activity in Nigeria
  8. Work with implementing partners to develop relevant communication materials at the project level;
  9. Develop specific targeted communication objectives and communication plans
  10. Work with the MEAL Officers to compose, edit, design, record, produce publications such as newsletters, leaflets, and brochures etc
  11. Train CBM partners on the standards of communication for development
  12. Other duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements

  1. University Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations or other relevant disciplines
  2. Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in a similar role, or as a writer in communications for development, preferably within donor-funded programmes; experience working in NGO communications would be considered an asset
  3. Experience in communications strategy development and implementation
  4. Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining social media campaigns
  5. Experience in digital communications and social media;
  6. Experience in corporate writing and editing;
  7. Experience in managing donor visibility;
  8. Experience with media liaison;
  9. Experience in NGO/humanitarian communications
  10. Ability to integrate into a multi-cultural environment.
  11. Must be proactive, seeking to do things differently, and to solve problems effectively and efficiently.
  12. Ability and willingness to learn.
  13. Able to work independently, and as a member of a team.
  14. Reflects CBM values in daily work.
  15.  Fluency in written and oral English.
  16. Willingness to travel to the field on a regular basis.
