Job Position: Credit Officer

Job Location: Lagos

Job Description

  1. The Credit Officer will oversee our company’s lending process, from evaluating clients’ credit worthiness to approving or rejecting loan requests.
  2. The Credit Officer’s responsibilities include:
    • Creating credit scoring models,
    • Setting loan terms and determining interest rates
  3. To be successful in this role, you should have a Degree in Accounting or Finance along with experience processing loan applications.
  4. Previous banking experience is a plus.
  5. Ultimately, you will help us minimize bad debts and increase revenues from loans.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Research and evaluate clients’ creditworthiness
  2. Create credit scoring models to predict risks
  3. Credit administration and preparation of offer letters.
  4. Analysis, appraisal and preparation of Structured Finance agreements and other documents.
  5. Review of credit applications to ensure that all documents submitted by the client are complete.
  6. Asset inspection before approval is made.
  7. Assessment of the client’s balance sheet performance, cash flow and streams of income.
  8. Accounts reconciliation and recovery management.
  9. Approve or reject loan requests, based on credibility and potential revenues and losses
  10. Calculate and set interest rates
  11. Negotiate loan terms with clients
  12. Monitor payments
  13. Maintain records of loan applications
  14. Follow up with clients to manage debt settlements and loan renewals
  15. Ensure all lending procedures comply with regulations
  16. Develop, review and update our company’s credit policies

Job Requirements

  • B.Sc in Accounting, Economics, Banking and Finance or relevant field
  • 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Proven work experience as a Credit Manager, Credit Analyst or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software
  • Solid understanding of lending procedures
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to create and process financial spreadsheets (e.g. in Excel)
  • Negotiation skills
