Job Position: Senior Data / GIS Analyst

Job Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Job Description

  1. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data and GIS Analyst to join our organization.
  2. The Senior Data and GIS Analyst will be responsible for managing and analyzing spatial and non-spatial datasets, conducting spatial analysis, and providing strategic insights through data-driven decision-making.
  3. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in data analysis, GIS technology, and a deep understanding of statistical methods.
  4. This role requires exceptional skills in data collection, analytical skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a strong attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Develop a data pipeline that will facilitate visualization and analytics
  2. Conduct spatial analysis and develop geospatial models to identify patterns, trends, and relationships within the data.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the EOC in Borno to understand data requirements and provide data-driven solutions.
  4. Develop and maintain databases, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security.
  5. Design and implement data collection methodologies and surveys to gather relevant information.
  6. Utilize GIS software and tools to create maps, visualize data, and present findings to stakeholders.
  7. Perform data mining and data cleansing activities to identify and resolve data discrepancies or anomalies
  8. Collaborate with other teams at the EOC Borno to ensure data infrastructure and systems are optimized for efficient data management and analysis
  9. Continuous improvement and generation of analytics sites and SharePoint to provide rapid access to knowledge.
  10. Maintain existing datasets in SQL, creation of views and linking of information for end users.
  11. Researches, and evaluates data solutions and libraries, providing recommendations on new technology relevant to exploration and growth.

Databases:

  1. Maintain, upgrade and create SQL database views and other data warehousing in order to provide relevant information to functions within exploration and growth.

Data Management:

  1. SharePoint, Data Analytics, SNL and other mining and markets third party data sources
    Generator of Geospatial Knowledge and Analytics.
  2. Continuous improvement, keep abreast and apply new technologies that are fit for purpose within the GIS and Analytics fields.
  3. Linking data warehouse (SQL) to various applications and analytics sites.  Maintaining and updating of key GIS datasets, participate and become a key contributor to the way forward for enterprise wide GIS systems.
  4. Owning Data Warehouse for Exploration and Growth.
  5. Staff meetings, training classes and supervision.
  6. Adheres to Policies and Procedures.
  7. Adheres to eHealth Africa Code of Conduct as well as ethical standards of the field.

Job Requirements
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to successfully perform this job.

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Geoinformatics, Statistic, Geomatics, Mining Engineering, Data Analytics or related field.
  2. A Postgraduate Degree / Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
  3. Minimum of proven five (05) years experience as a Data Analyst or GIS Analyst, preferably in a senior role.
  4. Proficiency of open Source GIS (QGIS, PostGIS and Geoserver), data transformation tools (FME Desktop, Kettle and python) and Commercial GIS (ArcInfo, ArcView, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox), ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server.
  5. Proficiency in statistical analysis software such as R, Python, or SAS
  6. Proficient with the activities within the EOC space (RI, REC, RES and other health related campaign).
  7. Experience in data visualization (Tableau, PowerBI, Lookstudio) and creating maps using GIS software.
  8. Solid understanding of data management principles, including data cleaning, normalization, and transformation.
  9. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets.
  10. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate and reliable results.
  13. Significant and advanced statistical experience may substitute for the Master’s Degree.
  14. Relevant working experience in an NGO is desirable. Demonstrated Knowledge of GIS data principles, practices and Techniques, Cartography and data collection systems.
  15. Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite.
