Job position: Data Scientist – GIS

Job Location: Nigeria

Job Description

  1. Manipulate high-volume, high-dimensional data from varying sources to visualize and identify patterns, anomalies, relationships, and trends.
  2. Visualization: Ability to design interactive data interfaces for communicating stories with data and unveiling insights within complex datasets.
  3. Possesses a strong ability and knowledge of database principles, data profiling, statistics, and data modeling and can apply this knowledge in new or complex situations.
  4. Mapping, spatial analysis, data analytics and visualization.
  5. Data extraction, web scraping and sourcing of the open-source GIS datasets to complement existing datasets.
  6. Managing the open source / open data artifacts
  7. Developing (open) data interfaces, use and design (meta) data schemes.
  8. Manages open-source projects developed by client.
  9. Establishes and ensures quality levels for source code and commits.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree, in Computer Science and/or Data Science or a directly related field or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.

Experience and Requirements:

  1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Data science with at least one project on Geospatial analytics using tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS etc.,
  2. Experience using open-source GIS datasets such as Satellite Images
  3. Domain knowledge of Geoscience and Earth Science are highly desirable.
  4. Previous experience in ETL process: data extraction, orchestrating data pipelines
  5. Experience working in an international context, ideally with international organizations is an asset.
  6. MLOps knowledge is highly desirable.
  7. Data extraction, orchestrating data pipelines and data transformation using e.g. Apache Airflow
  8. Good working knowledge of open-source Python libraries for Geospatial analytics
  9. Strong computer programming language skills in multiple languages and data management tools.
  10. Experience in Machine Learning Libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch or Keras).
  11. Experience with open-source data transformation, analytics and data visualization tools.
  12. Experience with GIS-based data visualization and analysis (e.g. shapefile generation, maps and overlays visualizations) is highly desirable.
  13. Experience working with cloud hosting platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Digital Ocean, Docker, Google Cloud is highly desirable.
  14. Someone with the ability to define GIS workflows and create POCs is an asset.
  15. Someone based in Namibia is highly desirable.
