Job position: Data Scientist – GIS

Job Description
- Manipulate high-volume, high-dimensional data from varying sources to visualize and identify patterns, anomalies, relationships, and trends.
- Visualization: Ability to design interactive data interfaces for communicating stories with data and unveiling insights within complex datasets.
- Possesses a strong ability and knowledge of database principles, data profiling, statistics, and data modeling and can apply this knowledge in new or complex situations.
- Mapping, spatial analysis, data analytics and visualization.
- Data extraction, web scraping and sourcing of the open-source GIS datasets to complement existing datasets.
- Managing the open source / open data artifacts
- Developing (open) data interfaces, use and design (meta) data schemes.
- Manages open-source projects developed by client.
- Establishes and ensures quality levels for source code and commits.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher degree, in Computer Science and/or Data Science or a directly related field or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
Experience and Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Data science with at least one project on Geospatial analytics using tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS etc.,
- Experience using open-source GIS datasets such as Satellite Images
- Domain knowledge of Geoscience and Earth Science are highly desirable.
- Previous experience in ETL process: data extraction, orchestrating data pipelines
- Experience working in an international context, ideally with international organizations is an asset.
- MLOps knowledge is highly desirable.
- Data extraction, orchestrating data pipelines and data transformation using e.g. Apache Airflow
- Good working knowledge of open-source Python libraries for Geospatial analytics
- Strong computer programming language skills in multiple languages and data management tools.
- Experience in Machine Learning Libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch or Keras).
- Experience with open-source data transformation, analytics and data visualization tools.
- Experience with GIS-based data visualization and analysis (e.g. shapefile generation, maps and overlays visualizations) is highly desirable.
- Experience working with cloud hosting platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Digital Ocean, Docker, Google Cloud is highly desirable.
- Someone with the ability to define GIS workflows and create POCs is an asset.
- Someone based in Namibia is highly desirable.
