Job Position: Education Specialist – USAID / Nigeria Education Midterm Portfolio Performance Evaluation

Job Description

  1. We are seeking an education specialist who will provide technical support for the evaluation in areas assessing early grade reading standards, curriculum and pedagogy review, teachers’ professional development, Universal Design for Learning.
  2. Under the technical leadership of the MEL Support Activity, the education specialist will be working alongside other evaluation team members.

Job Responsibilities
The education specialist is expected to:

  1. Coordinate with the team leader and other team members to conduct interviews.
  2. Conduct desk review of the activity and support education contextual understanding of the evaluation.
  3. Work with the evaluation specialist to design the data collection instruments and ensure it addresses all evaluation objectives.
  4. Interpret and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
  5. Support in preparing reports of research findings.
  6. Work with the team leader in planning, developing, coordinating, and administering research tools.
  7. Perform quality assurance reviews of both quantitative and qualitative data.
  8. Support the team leader in writing or editing technical reports and summaries of findings.
  9. Work with the team leader to perform desk review and identify additional information required for analysis.
  10. Work with the Team Leader in preparation and presentation of the In-brief and Out-brief to USAID/Nigeria and other stakeholders as requested.
  11. Support the team leader to develop the draft Evaluation report with support from the team members, taking into consideration feedback from the Out-brief presentation.
  12. Work with the team leader to respond to USAID comments on the draft report, incorporate USAID/Nigeria staff comments into the final version of the report and finalize the report.
  13. Work collaboratively with team members throughout design, implementation, analysis, and report writing to complement each other’s areas of expertise.

Job Requirements
The candidate is expected to have the following qualifications:

  1. Advanced Graduate Degree in a relevant field: Education Program, Measurement and Evaluation, International Development, or related fields.
  2. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the implementation of large and complex education development projects including Early Grade Reading and access to quality education.
  3. Contextual experience working in the Nigerian educational sector is required, work outside the Nigeria context will be an added advantage.
  4. Excellent ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  5. Previous experience as education specialist on education evaluations, assessments, and research studies. USAID evaluation experience strongly preferred.
