Job Position: Head, Financial Accounting (Downstream)
Location: Lagos

Job Description

1. To ensure accurate reporting of the Client’s financial transactions/position and support effective management of the company’s financial resources.
2. Develops and maintains a system of financial policies, procedures and controls for efficient financial management
3. Manages bank balances, interest income and expenses
4. Verifies payment requisitions for compliance with laid-down controls
5. Develops measures or controls to ensure that all financial transactions are accurately captured and reported
6. Implements measures to ensure that the company’s receivables are effectively monitored and are kept to a minimum
7. Reviews periodic financial reports submitted by relevant departments/units and presents timely reports to Executive Management through the Group Head, Finance
8. Enforces policies and procedures to ensure that the company’s liabilities are minimised and payments are promptly settled in line with agreed terms.
9. Manages the intercompany accounting process
10. Approves monthly payroll for employees and outsourced personnel/service providers
11. Oversees the preparation of regular financial accounts
12. Performs a monthly preparation of the Client’s liquidity position report. Establishes measures that ensure prompt preparation of required reconciliations, reviews reports for accuracy and ensures that uncleared and/or outstanding items are investigated.
13. Supervises the fixed asset management process. Establishes procedures to secure, account for and monitor the acquisition, movement and disposal of fixed assets across the group.
14. Oversees the deduction and remitting of deductibles, e.g. Pension Funds, PAYE
15. Computation and remittance of tax liabilities to the appropriate regulatory bodies
16. Coordinates the statutory reporting process and preparation of the Group’s annual returns
17. Approves accruals and adjustments on erroneously posted financial transactions in the financial system
18. Responds to relevant requests from financial institutions.

2. Number of defaults recorded in the payment of Tax, Pension remittance and other statutory payments
3. Ratio of compliance cost to the company’s revenue.

Performance Area – Asset and Fund Management:

1. Performance Measures/Indicators
2. Accuracy of fixed asset records
3. Effective Monitors of income and expenditure
4. Accuracy of ledgers for accounts – Payables, Receivables, etc.

Qualifications

1. Minimum of a First Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any related discipline
2. Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, 3 of which must have been in a Management position in an organisation, interfacing with the Executive team and Financial partners
3. Relevant professional certifications, e.g. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) or its equivalent
4. Experience in statutory financial reporting and knowledge of GAAP, IFRS. Desirable:
5. MBA or Master’s degree in a related discipline
