Job Position: Head of Investment

Job Location: Sabo, Yaba – Lagos

Job Description

  1. As the Head of Investment at CcHUB, you will be an integral part of the investment team and play a key role in all activities within the investment process.  From the sourcing of new opportunities, screening and selection of companies and the deployment of capital.
  2. We expect that you provide the best-in-class experience for all stakeholders of the company.
  3. You will be expected to lead and support post-investment in the companies, take on board seats and work closely with our founders to ensure that value accretive support is provided and a maintain a high standard of regulatory compliance and governance exists within the business and portfolio companies.

Deal sourcing:

  1. You will be responsible for the outbound sourcing of relevant start-ups, as well as managing the inbound start-up submissions through our platform, founders and events across Africa.
  2. Lead and be responsible for all aspects of the deal process, including vetting the commercial viability, due diligence and terms negotiation, founders and expert interviews, stakeholder management (e.g., advisors, lawyers, partners).
  3. Perform research and analysis of new markets, technologies, and competitive landscapes
  4. Ability to connect and engage with entrepreneurs within the ecosystem so that you can spot opportunities and move deals forward.
  5. Conduct all necessary market research, competitive analysis, and modelling required to build conviction on deals opportunities.

Investment Execution:

  1. Provide hands-on leadership for all aspects of the investment process.
  2. Validate investment opportunities for deal execution – end-to-end ability to negotiate terms, build financial model, and cap table.
  3. Maintain meticulous records of all investment activity between founders and investors from origination to exit.
  4. Develop and prepare investment materials and packs for the Investment Committee that outlines the strategic benefits of the investment, financial analysis, commercial partnership terms, investment terms, and other relevant information.
  5. Dealing with matters arising with investments, analyzing issues, developing action plans, communicating with interested parties, and resolving disputes.

Portfolio Support & Management:

  1. Develop, manage and/or execute programs and projects to support the growth of portfolio companies and achieve a healthy return on investment.
  2. Provide value accretive support with respect to growth and operations strategy, revenue and cost optimization, pricing strategy and model, and other support required by the company from time to time
  3. Serving as a touch point between the portfolio companies and the large organization across all its locations.
  4. Monitor portfolio companies’ performance (e.g. fundraising activities, revenue, and valuation growth) and provide relevant updates and reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  5. Take on board positions representing CcHUB on the board of portfolio companies.

Financial Advisory:

  • Developing financial advisory mandates by providing hands on fundraising support and advisory to founders with priority to portfolio companies, then the larger technology and innovation ecosystem. This includes, but may not be limited to defining their fundraising story/strategy, reviewing and honing their investor materials (pitch deck, financial model), building a pipeline of investors, reviewing their materials, and negotiating terms
  • Assisting with the negotiation of term sheets, helping portfolio founders to understand cap-table dynamics and all things equity-related.
  • Provide other ad-hoc support required to close the transaction on a best-effort basis.

Investor Relations:

  • Develop and maintain value-add relationships with investors through regular meetings, events, and updates.
  • Supporting fund operations including writing quarterly LP reports on new investments and our pipeline; and
  • Managing and tracking communications and relationships with founders and funds.

Projects & Initiatives:

  • Lead or participate in internal process improvement projects to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability of investment management and reporting operations
  • Contribute to communications and publicity efforts to raise the profile of portfolio companies and the company.
  • As head of investment, participate in other organization-wide initiatives or efforts to develop the African tech start-up ecosystem.

Fundraise and Business Development:

  1. Represent CcHUB in the start-up and investor scene, strengthening your own network in the ecosystem.
  2. Participate in the development and future growth of the company by proactively driving/ supporting partners and the team in internal business development topics like process optimization, branding, and much more.
  3. Work with the founders and management of CcHUB to raise thematic and generalist funds focused on providing the right kind of capital to early stage companies.

Job Requirements

  1. Tertiary Education in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field
  2. Entrepreneurial mindset with a keen interest in early-stage companies, start-ups, and technology, displayed through knowledge and previous VC or start-up investment (angel, incubator, accelerator) work experience. Board experience is a plus (but not crucial).
  3. 10 years of relevant experience with a background in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or other social sciences. At least 5+ years of relevant experience, in a VC or start-up investment environment (angel, incubator, accelerator) having already been deeply involved in deals from sourcing to closing and having worked with and monitored portfolio companies.
  4. Holds a reputable professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, ACS, CFA) (a plus but not crucial)
  5. Proven track record in developing deal pipelines and sourcing, including deal analysis, due diligence, financial modeling, reviewing and negotiating all documentation, and driving the deal process to completion
  6. Experience in portfolio management and value creation in an operational role (operator or previous founder)
