Job Position: Head of Risk Control
Job Location: Ibadan, Oyo
Job Description
- The Head of Risk Control will be responsible for building a world-class internal control and risk management function in addition to partnering with the CEO to monitor the risk profile as the business goes through an accelerated growth cycle.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Functions:
- Review, assess, and make recommendations on risk management policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Recommend and implement risk management solutions such as business continuity plans and recovery measures.
- Review and analyze metrics and data such as cash flow, inventory, operational processes, production procedures, and employee activities to identify potential losses.
- Design and implement an overall risk management process for the organization
- Provide recommendations and solutions in crisis situations and loss investigation scenarios.
Loss Prevention:
- Manage and develop loss control programs and administer risk management programs related to operating risk, financial risk, compliance risk, and legal risk.
- Direct loss prevention programs including target store audits, maintenance audits, safety audits, etc
- Lead surveillance, detection, criminal processes related to theft, shrinkages, damages and other sources of losses.
Internal Audit:
- Provide the organization with guidance on financial accuracy, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
- Examine and improve operating practices and financial risk management processes of the organization
- Perform and carry out risk control management over operational effectiveness, financial reliability, and compliance with all applicable directives and regulations
- Carry out periodic audits on the organization processes to ensure inventory is processed, handled, and monitored appropriately and document any errors or failures
- Develop and implement a risk-based audit approach; building up organizational capacity and systems to sustain it.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma either in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (2:1 or higher preferred)
- Master’s in Accounting, Finance or MBA would be an added advantage
- Qualified /Certified Accountants ICAN/ACA strongly preferred
- Minimum of 10 years experience in audit, risk control or compliance functions
- 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role driving business change, first in risk or internal control functions and then across the business
- Thorough understanding of policies and best practices of risk management
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop trust amongst peers and junior team members. Ability to build coalitions and effect change in front-line behavior and practices
- Passion for identifying and remediating vulnerabilities and deficiencies
- Deep critical thinking/ reasoning and problem-solving skills that can quickly identify signs of questionable activity and follow through to identify the root cause
- Passion for identifying and remediating vulnerabilities and deficiencies
- Strong data analysis skills in MS Excel and other data analysis packages
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Preferred: Extensive knowledge of retail operations and loss prevention strategies and procedures.
