Description

With operations driven by efficiency, discipline, and innovation, the company seeks a competent Human Resource Manager to lead HR strategy and day-to-day people operations at its Enugu production facility.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in factory-based HR leadership, industrial relations, Nigerian labour law compliance, and workforce productivity management in unionised environments.

Job Summary

The Human Resource Manager will be responsible for developing and executing human resources strategies that support plant operations and workforce stability. This includes overseeing recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management, union negotiations, welfare, and staff discipline. The role requires a strong leader with hands-on experience in manufacturing, sound knowledge of Nigerian Labor Law, and the ability to foster harmony between management and unionized staff.

Job Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership & Workforce Planning:

  1. Partner with plant leadership and the Director to develop HR strategies that support operational efficiency and production goals.
  2. Lead workforce planning and labour optimisation to ensure adequate staffing across all shifts and production lines.
  3. Drive initiatives that enhance productivity, reduce turnover and promote industrial harmony.

Recruitment, Onboarding & Exit Management:

  1. Manage end-to-end recruitment for plant workers, technicians, supervisors, and administrative staff.
  2. Oversee structured onboarding, orientation, and safety compliance training for new hires.
  3. Ensure timely and compliant exit processing including clearance, exit interviews, and final entitlements.

Industrial Relations & Trade Union Management:

  1. Act as the primary liaison between management and trade unions/workers’ associations.
  2. Lead collective bargaining negotiations in collaboration with legal and executive teams.
  3. Address industrial disputes promptly and ensure adherence to grievance-handling procedures.
  4. Maintain updated knowledge of applicable collective agreements and ensure compliance.

Compliance, Policy & Documentation:

  1. Ensure all HR practices comply with Nigerian Labor Law, Factories Act, and other statutory regulations (e.g., NSITF, ITF, PENCOM, NHF).
  2. Maintain up-to-date employee records and regulatory documentation for inspections and audits.
  3. Develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and standard operating procedures in line with factory realities.

Performance & Discipline Management:

  1. Implement performance tracking systems for factory and non-factory employees.
  2. Coordinate employee evaluations, goal-setting, and performance reviews.
  3. Investigate misconduct, enforce disciplinary action, and maintain industrial discipline in a fair, documented, and consistent manner.

Compensation, Benefits & Staff Welfare:

  1. Work with Finance to process accurate and timely payroll, overtime, shift differentials, and statutory deductions.
  2. Administer benefits such as HMO, pensions, leave entitlements, and welfare support.
  3. Oversee canteen, transport, and safety gear distribution for factory workers.

Training, Development & Safety Awareness:

  1. Identify training needs for all staff levels and coordinate technical, safety, and soft skills training.
  2. Organize periodic compliance training, including workplace safety, fire drills, and first-aid awareness.
  3. Track training outcomes and monitor skill development aligned with operational goals.

HR Administration & External Liaison:

  1. Manage HR vendors including training consultants, safety auditors, background check firms, and insurance providers.
  2. Ensure timely reporting, documentation, and internal communication on HR metrics and issues.
  3. Represent the company in labour inspections, external audits, and compliance matters.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related discipline.
  2. Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing or factory environment.
  3. Membership in a recognized HR professional body such as CIPM, SHRM, or equivalent (active membership is required).
  4. Strong understanding of Nigerian labour laws, trade union relations, factory policies, and health and safety regulations.
  5. Proficiency with HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Experience in handling union negotiations and employee grievances is essential.

  1. Monthly Net Salary: N400,000 – N500,000
