Job Position: In-House Legal Counsel
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos

Job Summary

The In-House Legal Counsel will be expected to provide legal guidance, ensure legal compliance across our business units, manage contracts, mitigate risks, and support business operations.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Represent the company’s clients in court proceedings, if necessary
  2. Provide legal advice on company operations, contracts, policies, and regulatory compliance.
  3. Advise on compliance matters and ensure the corporation operates within the law
  4. Monitor and develop compliance policies and procedures.
  5. Draft, review, and negotiate several contracts, including partnership agreements and service agreements.
  6. Conduct legal research and analysis on various corporate legal issues
  7. Work closely with management to provide legal advice and risk analysis on business strategies and initiatives
  8. Manage the contract lifecycle, ensuring compliance with terms and deadlines
  9. Identify and assess potential legal risks, developing mitigation strategies.
  10. Advise on insurance coverage and claims.
  11. Draft and review student enrollment agreements and partner contracts.
  12. Advise on accreditation, licensing, and educational compliance.
  13. Advise on employee contracts, policies, and HR compliance.
  14. Assist with work visa applications and ensure immigration law compliance.
  15. Support corporate governance, including board meetings and regulatory filings.

Requirements, Skills & Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) and admission to the Nigerian Bar or relevant jurisdiction.
  2. 1-2 years of experience as an in-house legal counsel or in a corporate law firm.
  3. Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, intellectual property, and employment law.
  4. Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
