Job Position: Instrumentation Maintenance Engineer
Job Location: Riruwai, Kano
Job Description
- The Instrumentation Engineer performs scheduled maintenance and preventative repairs on all instrument systems, equipment, and machinery.
- The person hired in this position will also review maintenance schedules and adjust them as necessary to keep systems functioning at peak levels.
- The ideal candidate will direct all activities related to supervising personnel engaged in the repair, modification, and installation of new and existing equipment and facility maintenance.
Job Responsibilities

- Repair Instrument Systems and act quickly to make on-the-spot repairs when instrument systems and machinery malfunction.
- Maintaining and troubleshooting problems with the existing SCADA System, developing new control philosophies, and tie additional equipment and circuits to the SCADA system.
- Designing control loops with instrumentation and equipment settings with plant staff. Implement requested changes to existing plant instrumentation as requested
- Ensure instrument documentation (P&ID’s, datasheets, instrument list, loop and termination drawings, etc.) are revised in accordance with industry standards and kept up to date in an auditable format.
- Develop calibration procedures and scheduled work orders in accordance with the maintenance strategy.
- Provide regular scheduled instrument repair, installation, prevention and inspection work.
- Implementation of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
- Initiates and carries out projects to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Tracks, analyses and improves key maintenance parameters; such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, downtime, etc.
- Ability to use various tools, including but not limited to precision tools, drill press, power tools, grinders, drills, pullers, hoists, wrenches, meters, screw drivers, etc.
- Preferred, knowledge and experience to provide technical guidance to instrument technicians and electricians.
- Should have engineering skills and a knowledge of a wide variety of technical subjects including hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, mechanical, and computer systems.
- The candidate must have in-depth knowledge about instrumentation especially in level, flow, density and pressure measurement. Must have knowledge about remote IO. Hands on experience will have added advantages.
- Should have working knowledge of Industrial Ethernet, Serial Communication protocols, MODBUS and Optic Fibre Communication. Need to have experience in Siemens PLC. Need to have experience in programming of STEP 7. Ladder logic is a must.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience in the manufacturing environment in a managerial role
- Previous experience in facilities/plant engineering is a plus
- The Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and optimising the process department’s
- SCADA systems, so that a high level of data integrity and plant availability is maintained
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems will be an added advantage.
- Experience with integrated drives with PLC control
- Experience in trouble-shooting, monitoring, and general maintenance and repair
- Experience working in a facility with multiple shift
- Good time management skills
- Comfortable reading and understanding Piping & Instrument schematics and diagrams.
- Work independently as well as team.
