Klasha makes it easy for African consumers to shop online. We build technology that allows African consumers to easily access the goods they want on the continent. We enable payments online in local African currencies and can handle the last-mile logistics for our retail partners too. Statistically, Africa is the future, so we believe consumers on the continent should have the same frictionless access to the global e-commerce economy as consumers in the West.

Klasha was founded in Lagos, Nigeria in 2018 and is backed by Techstars, Ginco Investments and a group of notable angel investors. Klasha is run by 20-somethings from five nationalities that speak six different languages between them. Klasha has offices in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria.

Job Position: Legal and Compliance Associate

Job Description

  1. As a Legal and Compliance Associate at Klasha, your role is pivotal in ensuring strict adherence to all legal and compliance standards across our operations.
  2. Your responsibilities will involve meticulously navigating and integrating legal and regulatory frameworks within the fabric of our daily operations.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to relevant laws and regulations across all departments, mitigating potential risks and ensuring full compliance.
  2. Policy Development and Implementation: Lead the development and implementation of compliance policies, ensuring alignment with changing legal landscapes.
  3. Territory Expansion Compliance: Strategize and ensure compliance efforts for new territory expansion, conducting thorough assessments to ensure conformity with local regulations and laws.
  4. Partnership Compliance: Oversee compliance aspects in strategic partnerships and alliances, ensuring they support Klasha’s growth within legal parameters.
  5. Legal Reporting and Documentation: Collaborate with various teams to develop and maintain robust reporting processes that align with legal and regulatory requirements.
  6. Training and Awareness Programs: Conduct training programs to ensure the organization is well-informed and aligned with legal and compliance standards.
  7. Legal Advisory Support: Offer legal guidance and support in contract reviews, negotiations, and other legal matters essential to the business.
  8. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential areas of risk and strategize effective mitigation measures.

Job Requirements

  1. Legal Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Law or a relevant field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  2. Relevant Experience: 3+ years in legal and compliance roles within technology, fintech, or related industries.
  3. Compliance Expertise: Demonstrated experience in interpreting and implementing legal and regulatory requirements in day-to-day operations.
  4. Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex legal information and draw actionable insights.
  5. Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
