Job Position: Legal Associate

Job Location: Lagos

Job Description

  1. We are looking to engage a competent and experienced Legal Associate to provide general legal support to the group’s businesses from the Lagos – Nigeria office.
  2. We are seeking hard-working, self-motivated, and well-organized individuals with a focus on continuous improvement to exceed expectations.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Directing, coordinating and supervising groupwide legal matters.
  2. Monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  3. Monitoring external counsel.
  4. Ensuring timely filing of statutory returns.
  5. Preparing legal templates required for business processes and engagements; negotiating contracts with counterparties.
  6. Identifying and forecasting legal risks and advising on legal risk mitigation.
  7. Acting as company secretary.
  8. Attending and maintaining of minutes in respect of group meetings.
  9. Providing and implementing recommendations on the group’s corporate governance framework, ensuring that the group not only adheres to legal requirements but to global corporate governance best practices.
  10. Liaising with regulatory and governmental institutions as required.
  11. Tracking and maintaining records of regulatory developments within the group’s industries and reporting such developments to management.

Job Requirements
Education:

  1. A Law Degree with excellent grades and qualified to practice law in Nigeria.

Experience:

  • 2-5 years post qualification work experience in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong preference will be given to applicants that have worked in top-tier law firms.

Language Proficiency:

  1. English (excellent oral & writing skills).
  2. French (oral & writing skills) will be an added advantage

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Proven law firm or in-house experience and background in Nigerian law and regulations particularly power, employment, project financing, investment law, company law and general corporate advisory.
  2. Proven background on liaising with regulatory authorities in Nigeria.
  3. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office applications in particular, MS Word and PowerPoint.
  4. Experience in managing and dealing with high-profile counterparts with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  5. Commercial awareness.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
  7. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  8. High degree of personal maturity with the ability to lead conversations and negotiate with high profile counterparts.
  9. Ability to critically analyse complex problems and provide structured solutions.
  10. Comfortable with working as part of a team.
  11. Confidentiality.
  12. Willingness to work flexible hours if necessary.
  13. Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  14. Possess keen eyes for details.
