Job Position: Legal Counsel
Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Job Overview

  1. Legal Support and general legal guidance concerning OPay’s products, services, and offerings across its diverse markets and verticals.
  2. Provision of legal support for contracts – drafting, review, periodic litigation portfolio management.
  3. Analyze, report & manage legal risks for business lines, including (but not limited to) core-tech and Fintech-related agreements.
  4. Responsible for drafting, reviewing contracts, and related documents for new & ongoing business transactions.
  5. Cross-collaboration with other departments
  6. Provide legal support for e-commerce and digital marketing initiatives
  7. Ensure onboarding and training of new business partners, and reinforce with existing business partners, to help drive value, discipline, and assist business partners’ understanding of risk management and mitigation involved in the contract negotiation process.
  8. Develop expertise in relevant legal regimes, including data privacy laws, industry standards, and intellectual property, to facilitate regulatory and internal compliance.
  9. Provide general legal advice in company legal affairs and disputes.
  10. Manage external law firms and legal consulting.

Job Requirements

  1. Minimum of LLB & LICENSE Certificate of Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL)
  2. 4 – 5 years’ post-qualification experience.
  3. Multinational/law firm experience is desirable, though not mandatory.

Knowledge:

  1. Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian laws, regulations, and policies.
  2. Depth and familiarity with the financial services industry, fintech regulations, and policies.
  3. Excellent grasp of legal research, advisory, and analysis.
  4. In-depth communication skills – drafting, review, negotiation.

Capability:

  1. Excellent logic and comprehension, excellent organisational and communication skills.
  2. Excellent problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
  3. Great command of English (written, spoken).
