Job Description
- As a Legal Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of corporate law and corporate affairs compliance (CAC).
- You will work closely with attorneys and legal professionals to support their day-to-day activities and contribute to ongoing projects within the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, regulations, and other legal sources to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy development.
- Assist in drafting legal documents such as memoranda, briefs, motions, contracts, and correspondence under the guidance of supervising attorneys.
- Review and analyze legal documents, contracts, and agreements to identify key provisions, risks, and compliance issues.
- Support attorneys in matters related to corporate governance, including board meetings, shareholder communications, and corporate filings.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with corporate affairs regulations, including drafting and filing necessary documentation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and maintaining corporate records.
- Attend court proceedings, hearings, and trials to observe legal proceedings and provide support to attorneys as needed.
- Assist in managing case files, organizing documents, and maintaining case calendars to ensure deadlines are met and cases are progressing smoothly.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in legal matters to gather information, schedule meetings, and provide updates on case progress.
- Perform various administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, scanning, and document preparation to support the efficient operation of the legal department.
- Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and legal precedents relevant to the organization’s practice areas and assist in ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Job Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited law school program.
- Strong academic record with coursework in relevant areas of law such as contracts, torts, civil procedure, and legal research and writing.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Professional demeanor with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software applications (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Microsoft Office).
- Previous internship or work experience in a legal setting is preferred but not required.
