Overview

Baobab Microfinance Bank is an investment company whose mission is to create a group of leading microfinance banks and finance companies in at least 15 countries by 2015 that will provide financial services and savings products to entrepreneurs who lack access to the traditional financial sector. Baobab was created in July 2005 by PlaNet Finance, and other investors including International Finance Corporation, AXA Belgium, and Societe Generale, with the European Investment Bank, the French Development Agency and Developing World Markets Joining later.

Job Position: Legal Officer

Job Location: Lagos

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide Legal advisory services
  2. Reviews banking documents for the purpose of checking its legality and arrangement with local/international Law
  3. Ensure that all banking operations and transactions are in accordance with general rules and company policies in order to protect banks’ property and reputation
  4. Review 3rd party contracts.
  5. Provide support in compliance-related matters and risk management
  6. Give advice on a broad range of legal and regulatory issues
  7. Liaise with external counsel where necessary
  8. Drafting and reviewing commercial and financial agreements
  9. Supporting managers in structuring, negotiating, finalising and maintaining all commercial and financial arrangements.
  10. Drafting of memorandums of understanding
  11. Advise management in structuring, negotiating and executing transactions with 3rd parties.
  12. Addressing ongoing legal obligations including compliance with CBN and anti-money laundering issues.

Job Requirements

  1. LLB in Law and BL with common Law background.
  2. At least 3 years post call experience in similar position
  3. Not more than 5 years post call.
