Job Position: Legal Officer

Job Location: Ibeju-lekki, Lagos

Job Description

  1. A legal officerplays a vital role in managing legal matters related to real estate transactions, contracts, property acquisitions, and compliance.
  2. They ensure that the company’s activities align with applicable laws and regulations. Here is an overview of the job description:

Job Responsibilities

  1. Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, agreements, leases, and purchase/sale agreements.
  2. Provide legal advice and guidance to the company’s management and other departments on matters related to real estate transactions, land acquisition, property development, and regulatory compliance.
  3. Conduct legal research to ensure compliance with Nigerian real estate laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
  4. Assist in negotiating and structuring real estate deals, including property acquisitions, joint ventures, and partnerships.
  5. Manage and resolve legal disputes or issues arising from real estate transactions, including litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution.
  6. Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of legal contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments.
  7. Coordinate with external legal counsel, government authorities, and regulatory bodies when required.
  8. Stay updated with changes in real estate laws and regulations in Nigeria and provide recommendations for compliance.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.): Obtain a Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized Nigerian university or an institution with equivalent accreditation.
  2. Nigerian Law School: Successfully complete the mandatory one-year program at the Nigerian Law School and pass the Bar Final Examinations to become eligible for legal practice in Nigeria.
  3. 3 – 5 years work experience.

Skills:

  1. Strong knowledge of Nigerian real estate laws, regulations, and legal procedures.
  2. Excellent drafting and reviewing skills for legal documents, contracts, and agreements.
  3. Analytical and problem-solving abilities to address legal issues and provide practical solutions.
  4. Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and legal analysis.
  5. Good negotiation and communication skills to interact with stakeholders, clients, and legal professionals.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  7. Research and legal writing skills to conduct thorough legal research and produce well-reasoned legal opinions.
  8. Proficiency in using legal research tools and resources.
