Job Position: Legal Officer

Job Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos

Job Description

  1. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Legal Officer to join our team.
  2. The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the organization on a wide range of legal matters, including commercial contracts and agreements, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory issues to ensure the company operates within legal boundaries and minimizes potential risks.
  3. The Legal Officer shall also ensure the company complies with the statutory and corporate governance practices and guidelines as observed in the manufacturing and trading industry.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements, including vendor contracts, client agreements, and partnership agreements.
  2. Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on contract interpretation, risk assessment, and compliance issues.
  3. Research and analyze legal issues and regulations relevant to the organization’s operations and industry.
  4. Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and legal trends that may impact the organization and provide recommendations for compliance.
  5. Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations both nationally and internationally.
  6. Manage and protect the organization’s intellectual property assets, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
  7. Handle legal disputes and litigation matters, including managing outside counsel and representing the organization in court or alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
  8. Conduct legal due diligence reviews for mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions with the organization.
  9. Assist with corporate governance matters, including board meetings, resolutions, and regulatory filings.
  10. Provide legal training and guidance to employees on legal issues and best practices.
  11. Prepare and maintain legal documentation, including corporate records, contracts, and regulatory filings.
  12. Respond to legal inquiries and requests from internal and external stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  13. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and human resources, to address legal issues and support business initiatives.
  14. Ensure that the organization’s activities and operations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  15. Perform other legal tasks and responsibilities as assigned by senior management.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Law, or equivalent legal qualification.
  2. Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction; license to practice law required.
  3. Minimum of 4 years post NYSC experience practicing law, preferably in a corporate or commercial setting.
  4. Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance.
  5. Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  6. Ability to communicate complex legal concepts and issues clearly and effectively.
  7. Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  8. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  10. Experience with intellectual property law and protection preferred.
  11. Knowledge of corporate governance principles and practices.
  12. Familiarity with litigation and dispute resolution processes.
  13. Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
  14. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  15. Commitment to integrity, ethics, and professionalism in all aspects of legal practice.

Salary
N200,000 Monthly.
