Job Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist
Location: Ajah, Lagos

Description

The medical laboratory scientist is expected to use their technical knowledge and skills to deliver quality and accurate diagnostics services to the patients.

The role involves performing routine and advanced medical laboratory tests and procedures, equipment maintenance, and ensuring the existing quality management system is maintained.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performing pre-analytical procedures, e.g. sample collection, separation, accessioning, packaging, review of samples for acceptance or rejection, etc.
  2. Operate and maintain medical diagnostics analysers, instruments, and other tabletop tools.
  3. Perform sample testing and reporting, Identification of critical results and escalating the same as per the set protocol.
  4. Performs necessary equipment calibration, running of controls, reviewing internal quality controls, and actioning of the same.
  5. Keeping relevant documentation up to date (e.g. work cards, worksheets, inventory logs, maintenance logs, etc.).
  6. Timeous release of laboratory results (within stipulated Turnaround times).
  7. Maintaining good laboratory practices.
  8. Optimisation of the use of laboratory commodities (reagents, consumables, kits, others).
  9. Utilises LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for specimen tracking, results entry, result approval, and reporting.
  10. Maintains strict patient information protection and confidentiality.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS) with a current practising license issued by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
  2. 1-3 years post-NYSC work experience (preferably in a hospital-based laboratory).
