Job Position: Microbiologist

Job Summary
Our client is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Microbiologist to join our laboratory team in Port Harcourt. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting microbiological analyses of water, environmental, food, and petroleum-related samples to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological testing on a wide range of samples including water, effluents, soil, and product surfaces.
- Identify, isolate, and quantify microbial contaminants using appropriate techniques (e.g., culture, staining, microscopy, biochemical testing).
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, incubators, laminar flow hoods, and colony counters.
- Prepare culture media and ensure proper sterilization and storage procedures are followed.
- Record, analyze, and report findings accurately and timely in line with standard operating procedures and client requirements.
- Maintain and update laboratory records, data sheets, and logbooks following regulatory standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
- Assist in method development and validation for new microbiological testing procedures.
- Adhere strictly to laboratory safety, hygiene, and quality control protocols.
- Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, or related life sciences.
- 1–3 years experience in a microbiology or environmental laboratory (industrial experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of microbiological techniques and standards (e.g., APHA, ISO, ASTM methods).
- Familiarity with quality systems and documentation, especially ISO 17025.
- Proficiency in lab equipment handling and microbial identification.
- Excellent observational, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
