Job Position: Network Engineer

Job Description

  1. A System/Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of an organization’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and associated hardware and software components.
  2. The preferred candidate would collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and maintain IT systems that align with business objectives

Job Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure Management:

  1. Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
  2. Monitor network performance, identify and resolve issues, and optimize network resources.
  3. Implement security measures to protect the network against cyber threats.

Server Administration:

  1. Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux).
  2. Manage server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  3. Ensure server availability, scalability, and performance.

System Deployment and Maintenance:

  1. Install, upgrade, and patch software and applications across the organization.
  2. Create and manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  3. Perform routine system backups and disaster recovery planning.

Security and Compliance:

  1. Implement and enforce security best practices, including access control and intrusion detection.
  2. Conduct security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
  3. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Troubleshooting and Support:

  1. Provide technical support to end-users, resolving hardware and software issues.
  2. Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and security problems.
  3. Document and maintain comprehensive system/network documentation.

Infrastructure Planning and Design:

  1. Collaborate with IT teams to assess technology needs and plan for future growth.
  2. Design and implement scalable, high-availability solutions.
  3. Recommend hardware and software upgrades and improvements.

Monitoring and Performance Optimization:

  1. Set up monitoring tools to proactively identify and address issues.
  2. Optimize system and network performance for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Collaboration and Communication:

  1. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, development, and security teams.
  2. Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  2. Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE).
  3. Strong knowledge of network protocols, hardware, and security best practices.
  4. Proficiency in server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) and virtualization technologies.
  5. Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  8. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  9. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model, VLANs, MPLS, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and network security concepts.
  10. Hands-on experience with network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate, Mikrotik Palo Alto Networks, and Huawei.
  11. Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools, such as Wireshark, Nagios, SolarWinds, or similar.
  12. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues efficiently.
  13. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  14. Relevant industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are preferred.
