Job Description

  1. As a Product designer, you want to measure and optimise our applications to improve ease of use (usability), and create the best and simplest user experience by exploring many different approaches to solve end-users’ problems.
  2. We are looking for a well rounded product designer who is able to understand our business requirements and any technical limitations, as well as be responsible for conceiving and conducting user research, interviews and surveys, and translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups and prototypes.
  3. The Product designer will also be expected to design the overall functionality of the product, and in order to ensure a great user experience, iterate upon it in accordance with user-testing.
  4. A good product designer must have empathy for the user, a deep understanding of user-centered design (UCD), and strong analytical abilities.
  5. Typically, we expect you to be a design generalist who can cater to our design needs.
  6. You should be motivated to combine the art of design with the art of programming.
  7. Responsibilities may include translation of the UI/UX design wireframes to actual code that will produce visual elements of the application. You should also be comfortable with designing some graphics as required by the team internally, and sometimes, for marketing purposes.
  8. This role reports to the Product Lead.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Consider the human-computer interaction (HCI) element of a design
  2. Consider existing applications, evaluate, and troubleshoot their UX effectiveness
  3. Run user testing of applications, software, and websites
  4. Plan and conduct user research and competitor analysis
  5. Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers
  6. Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps
  7. Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets
  8. Build page navigation buttons and search fields
  9. Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites and applications function, and will look like
  10. Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
  11. Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
  12. Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback
  13. Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors, and images
  14. Design new user-facing features
  15. Ensure technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  16. Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  17. Help decide the direction the application’s design takes

Job Requirements
Education:

  • Whilst it would be great for you to have a Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Design, Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field from an accredited university, we place a higher value on significant work experience in the workforce to compensate where there is no qualification.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role
  2. Portfolio of design projects
  3. Knowledge of wireframe tools (e.g. Sketch, Mockflow and InVision)
  4. Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe XD, Adobe creative suite, Figma and similar tools
  5. Team spirit; strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
  6. Skill in Mobile and enterprise design (Mobile, tablet, desktop)
  7. Iconography (Asset design)
  8. Logo design
  9. Good time-management skills
  10. Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3, React will earn you more points
  11. Knowledge of 3D tool e.g Blender or 3D max are highly valued
  12. Proficient understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS, SASS, bootstrap will earn you more points
  13. We’re a startup. You should be comfortable taking an imperfect feature design specification, and driving it all the way to completion.
