Job Position: Product Manager – Hardware Certification
Location: Lagos (Remote)

Job Summary

We are hiring a Product Manager for Hardware Certification. Ubuntu is the world’s favourite Linux, used by developers around the world. Canonical has created a line of products and services that address primary challenges for those developing and deploying software. This is an exceptional opportunity for a competitive technology leader to:

1. Lead the roadmap of our Hardware Certification effort and drive our partnership with OEMs
2. Work with our engineering team to shape the development roadmap for our Hardware Certification scheme
3. Define future business models taking into account the competitive landscape
4. Engage with the Ubuntu user community, key partners, OEMs and leading customers, enabling commercial success and driving go-to-market
5. This role encompasses product leadership and go-to-market strategy, ensuring that the product vision is translated into actionable plans and successful market launches.
6. Our product managers are technology professionals with a software engineering background who strive to become business executives and entrepreneurs.
7. We discuss strategy, plan product development, drive engagement, and promote the open-source way.
8. We oversee the entire product lifecycle from conception to delivery, blending technical expertise, strategic thinking, analytics, project management skills and effective communication to ensure products meet both user needs and business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

1. Lead the product development lifecycle, reviewing the priorities and goals for your product.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, design, marketing, and sales.
3. Address common challenges across projects, align on priorities, enable informed decisions, and keep business execution on track.
4. Conduct market research, analyse industry trends, and gather customer feedback to identify opportunities.
5. Communicate your product vision, status updates, and key decisions to ensure alignment and manage expectations.
6. Conduct usability testing, analyse user feedback, and iterate on the product to improve the user experience.
7. Collaborate with marketing, sales, and support teams to develop go-to-market strategies, create product documentation, and provide training.
8. Contribute to the success of our sales team in winning new opportunities, reviewing customer feedback and participating in customer meetings.

Job Qualification

1. Exceptional academic results at high school and university
2. Understanding of Linux and the wider open source software community
3. Understanding of computer architecture, application development, datacenters, cloud or devices
4. Passion to write about technologies and the tech landscape
5. A strong work ethic and personal interests aligned with the open source movement
6. Curiosity and the habit of continuous learning
7. A strong sense of ownership
8. Problem solving and the ability to innovate
9. Outstanding communications skills in English, both verbal and written
10. Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for company events up to two weeks long

Skill & Competencies

1. Familiarity with the technology ecosystem, including Silicon, IHV, ISV, ODM/OEMs, cloud service providers
2. Familiarity with embedded and connected device technology and ecosystems
3. Familiarity with hardware/software testing frameworks
4. Experience building a certification program
