MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices is part of Marie Stopes International’s Global Partnership which is in over 37 countries worldwide and it operates in Nigeria through six service delivery channels.
Job Position: Project Manager

Job Description
- The Project Manager will lead the overall management of assigned projects including managing the Reproductive Health Project funded by the Children Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF).
- S/he will be responsible for providing key day-to-day management oversight of assigned projects, including oversight and supervision of assigned channels of service delivery within MSI Nigeria, and ensuring country programmes and support office teams are reporting, spending, and delivering as per proposal deliverables and objectives.
- The role also includes strategic data analysis of programme performance and report compilation. The role will build relationships across the organisation, including international operations.
- Furthermore, the role holds full responsibility for the management of the external partners that are strategic to MSI Nigeria’s 2030 goals.
Job Responsibilities
Portfolio Management:
- Provide leadership and support efficient management of projects.
- Manage multiple project portfolios requiring engagement with multisectoral stakeholders and inter-ministerial engagements (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Women Affairs, etc)
- Manage project deliverables across multiple channels of service delivery.
- Ensure projects are implemented to a high standard and on budget working with all key internal stakeholders.
- Facilitate and lead monthly/routine project management meetings.
- Organise quarterly/annual project governance meetings.
- Provide oversight, advice and clear project guidance to regional offices and operational and technical departments. This will include work planning, reviews (visits), reporting, budgets, and forecasting.
- Collate and analyse project performance against deliverables and budgets on a Real-time basis and share monthly summaries with the Director Programmes to guide management decisions.
- Ensure the submission of high-quality reports in a timely manner.
- Monitor project spending against budget (budget variance analysis), in collaboration with the local (country programme) donor finance team (DFT).
- Organise and document quarterly review meetings and follow up with operations to ensure action points are being actioned.
- Conduct and organise regional support visits to monitor progress against project priorities.
- Support the Programme Director in ensuring teams deliver on the commitments made to funders/donors and that learning is applied throughout the organisation and supports the wider country programme engagement strategy.
Donor Management and Reporting:
- Lead on day-to-day key communications with departments on issues relating to projects, including budgets, performance reviews, and reports.
- Work in close collaboration with the Legal Compliance Unit and the Programme Director on all issues relating to compliance with relevant departments and units.
- Collation and analysis of programme performance data including leading on log frame management; support the programme’s quarterly, 6 monthly and annual donor reporting (depending on reporting needs) as data lead and lead on the narrative drafting and review.
- Ensure invoicing is done in a timely and high-quality manner to ensure zero delays in receiving donor payments.
- Ensuring clear project documentation systems are applied and up to date for all assigned projects.
- In conjunction with Programme Director, support the development of expansion proposals including writing, reviewing, and editing concept notes and proposals to a high standard, as required.
- Build strong external relationships, in particular facilitating coordination and learning across the implementing partners in the regional contracts.
- Actively participate in new business – proposal writing and mobilizing new resources for projects
- Collaborate with other departments to promote effective ways of delivering services, boosting team morale, fostering oneness, and promoting of MSI Nigeria’s mission.
- Contribute to the overall flexibility of resource use in the team by undertaking other assignments or tasks in accordance with your skills and experience as delegated by the Director of Programmes.
- Programme Support and Other Responsibilities
- Ensure clear communication: convene regular review meetings and conference calls with teams for project coordination; provide written and other guidance as necessary to disseminate vital information.
- In conjunction with Programme Director, support the development of expansion proposals including writing, reviewing, and editing concept notes and proposals to a high standard, as required.
- Build strong external relationships, in particular facilitating coordination and learning across the implementing partners in the regional contracts.
- Build strong internal relationships: proactively build relationships with key internal stakeholders across MSIN to facilitate effective cross-team working. This includes working with operations, clinical services, human resources, procurement/logistics, finance, and technical services teams.
- Provide support remotely to teams and assist on regional support visits as required in accordance with work plans and deliverables.
- Ensure relevant service delivery channels comply with the following:
- MSI Nigeria clinical quality standards, including an annual MS Ladies QTA and incident reporting,
- MSI Nigeria finance policy, including but not limited to each team having its own cost centre
- Monitoring and reporting data monthly
- Conform to and enforce the MSI Anti-fraud and bribery (AFB) guidelines for the channel and all related work.
- Implementing and monitoring data validation minimum standards
- Working with teams to collect weekly and monthly data and ensure that it is entered correctly into the MSI Nigeria MIS platforms (ORION/DHIS2) by the relevant team members and resolve any errors.
- Donor rules and regulations, particularly funders of MSI Nigeria service delivery channels
- Use available MSI Nigerua tools, including but not limited to Client Exit Interviews (CEI) monthly service data regularly to determine potential improvements and adjustments.
- Support the implementation of MSI Nigeria marketing strategy for relevant service delivery channels using MSI Nigeria Behaviour Change Framework, research findings and routine data collection for community-led demand generation strategies; broader-scale media campaigns to raise awareness on contraception; and use of community-based mobilisers/demand generators.
- Active participation in the annual development of the annual business plan, setting realistic projections and expectations necessary to achieve MSI Nigeria commitments in Nigeria.
Job Requirements
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
- Relevant Higher Degree / Business qualification (Desirable)
- Must have at least 8 years of project management experience and the last three years must be one managing a large grant on sexual and reproductive health preferably family planning.
- Experience managing interventions on Cervical Cancer, disability inclusion, menstrual hygiene, and sexual and gender-based violence will be an added advantage.
- Must have an excellent understanding of the sexual and reproductive health and family planning environment in Nigeria.
- Has a good understanding and working knowledge of the North.
- Must have the ability to manage a heavy and fluctuating workload, in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have the ability to work under own initiative.
- Must have accuracy, attention to detail and highly numerate and analytical skills.
- Advanced Excel skills will be an advantage.
- Must have strong communication skills – both written and verbal; diplomatic and able to manage sensitive information.
- Must have highly developed interpersonal skills, including cross-team negotiating and relationship-building
- Must have advanced advocacy skills and ability to engage with top government stakeholders.
