Overview

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the Premier Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria. It was incorporated in 1950 as a non-profit making organization, Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Act of 1948. The primary objective of the Chamber is to promote, support or oppose legislative or other measures affecting trade, industry, commerce and agriculture as well as representing the opinion of the business community on the above matters in particular, and the economy as a whole.

Job Description

  • The Job holder is to provide strategic support to the core functions of the Research and Advocacy Department such as sound research analysis, project Management, monitoring & evaluation of data and macroeconomic policies, report writing amongst other responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide supervisory support by coordinating the Senior Research Officers and other employees as may be assigned by the Director in achieving the quality objectives of the Department.
  2. Research and Economic Intelligence: Provide support the Research and Advocacy Director and Develop/publish regular Economics and Business Intelligence Reports, position papers on economic and
  3. Research, analyse and monitor economic developments and issues of importance to the Lagos & Nigerian business community and helping to shape government policy on investment and trade.
  4. Project Management, concept note and proposal writing for grants from potential Donors
  5. Liaise with the Research Department from other organizations/Government agencies
  6. Design, Preparation and Management of Research & Advocacy programs of the Chamber including donor-funded research projects.
  7. Monitor & evaluate macroeconomic policies and sectoral issues to generate topics for discussion at the Bi-Annual Economic Review and Outlook Seminars.
  8. Prepare monthly Economic and Business confidence Index of the Chamber.
  9. Preparation of weekly, monthly & quarterly economic reports to Director, Research and Advocacy for submission to Council & EXCO.
  10. Write and present technical papers on behalf of the Chamber.
  11. Compilation, periodic analysis, and interpretation of economic and statistical data, through research of the economic and development issues in the country and production of relevant reports aimed at promoting more conducive business environments in Nigeria.
  12. Prepare discussion papers on policy-oriented economic issues for discussion at the chambers business roundtable forums.
  13. Prepare draft position papers and memoranda of the Chamber.
  14. Liaise with the Corporate Communications Manager and Trade Group Secretaries in preparation of Press Conference papers and speeches.
  15. Support the advocacy function through provision of timely information on macroeconomic issues and other Government policies that have potential to affect the business community adversely.
  16. Provide regular information on trends of major economic indicators such as inflation rate, interest rate, global oil prices, exchange rate, as well as domestic and external debt.
  17. Keep an up-to-date record of policy pronouncement by the Government at both the State and Federal levels.
  18. Gather sectoral data on the performance of the various sectors of the economy for preparation of quarterly sectoral reports.
  19. Carry out other duties as may be assigned by the Director and Director-General.
  20. Business Policy Advocacy: Support the business policy Advocacy Department and Public Sector engagement of the Chamber such as Stakeholders’ engagement, Media engagement, Position papers, Memoranda to govern Research and Economic Intelligence: Provide support the Research and Advocacy Director and Develop/publish regular Economics and Business Intelligence Reports, position papers on economic and policy and regulations affecting businesses.
  21. Fund Raising: He or she sources for and attracts funding for the Research and advocacy Departmental activities and projects
  22. Budget Preparation, Review and Execution: Prepare the Research and Advocacy Department’s budget to the Director for review before commencement of annual activities.

Job Requirements

  • Candidates should possess a B.Sc in Economics.
  • M.Sc in Economics is also required. PHd is an added advantage
  • 8-9 years cognate experience in Research and Advocacy role and minimum of three years as an Assistant Research Manager or Senior Economist of a reputable  Organization.
  • A sound reporting writing skill.
  • Must have a good eye for details.
  • A very good knowledge of scientific methods, graphs, and economic models.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Enhanced numerical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Skills.
