African Student Founders is a social enterprise with a primary focus on promoting economic self- sufficiency among disadvantaged youth through digital entrepreneurship. Our objective is to combat youth unemployment by offering support for startup initiatives and fostering the development of sought-after skills. Our initial endeavor concentrates on youth in West Africa, concentrating on specific demographic groups where we can make a substantial impact. Currently, ASF is collaborating with prominent service providers in the region to conduct a comprehensive landscape scan to assess opportunities, needs and gaps that will shape our strategic approach.

Job Position: Screenwriter II (Remote)

Job Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Description

  1. We’re looking for a talented and experienced screenwriter to join our team. As a screenwriter, you will be responsible for writing original scripts for series, feature films, television, and digital media projects.
  2. You will collaborate with the development and production teams to create stories and characters that are compelling and unique, and you will work with the director and producers to ensure that the final product is true to the vision of the project.
  3. The most successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the film/television industry, as well as the creative and technical aspects of screenwriting.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Write original screenplays, including treatments, outlines, and drafts
  2. Develop characters and storylines for new projects
  3. Research background information for accuracy in scripts
  4. Edit and revise existing drafts of screenplays to improve the overall story
  5. Work with directors, producers, and other members of the creative team to develop a script from start to finish
  6. Understand the specific requirements of the project and genre, and tailor the screenplay accordingly
  7. Stay up-to-date on industry trends and news
  8. Attend pitch meetings and provide feedback on ideas
  9. Network with other professionals in the industry
  10. Manage multiple projects at various stages of development
  11. Meet deadlines and budget constraints
  12. Handle notes and revisions from executives, producers, and studio representatives.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Screenwriting, Film Studies, English, or related field
  2. Minimum of 2+ years professional writing experience with solid portfolio of work
  3. Exceptional writing skill, with a strong understanding of story structure, character development, and dialogue
  4. Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines
  5. Excellent organisational skill and multitasking ability
  6. Proficiency in text editing tools Google docs, Word, Page, etc.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Social media or content marketing experience a plus
  2. Proofreading experience and familiarity with standard style guides a plus
  3. A keen eye for detail.

Salary

  • N120,000 net monthly.
