Job Position: Senior Accountant

Job Location: Lagos

Job Description

  1. The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring all accounting and financial duties are performed according to established policies and procedures.
  2. S/He analyses and prepares financial and management reports to aid management decisions, and works closely with Head of Finance to develop and implement strategies and plans to achieve the company’s long-term objectives.
  3. The Senior Accountant also ensures accuracy of the Company’s financial records and compliance with best practice financial management principles and regulatory requirements.
  4. S/He is responsible for an accurate capturing and allocation of expenses and investments, for monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation, etc.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Manage an accurate financial administration (creditors, debtors, salary administration, ledgers) and monitors the cash flow, the goods flow, accounts, and other financial transactions.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of periodic management reports to aid management decision-making process.
  3. Prepare periodic financial reports, ensuring compliance with defined accounting policies and financial reporting standards.
  4. Perform financial analysis as required, andreports at the Company’s regional officesas required.
  5. Work with the Head of Finance in the preparation of setting up the company budgets for the next financial year.
  6. Ensure the invoices are controlled and approved by the line management before processing in the accounting system.
  7. Develops system for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.
  8. Prepare and ensure prompt remission of all statutory payments towards including VAT, PAYE tax, employee, and Company pension contributions.
  9. Liaise with auditors/ tax consultant and external auditors (FIRS/LIRS etc.) on various audit activities.
  10. Make timely payment to the tax authorities after approval by Line Manager.
  11. Maintain a good relationship with the tax authorities.
  12. Responsible for general internal audit activities for the Company.
  13. Manage the Company’s general ledger and account statements; and ensure all transactions are processed in line with acceptable accounting principles.
  14. Maintain Petty Cash Book.
  15. Perform periodic ledger and bank reconciliations as required.
  16. Oversees POS collection and reconciliation.
  17. Manage the receipts and deposits of cash and bank transactions, including foreign transfers, to ensure the accuracy of the Company’s financial position.
  18. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of all financial activities.
  19. Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  20. Assist the Head of Finance to formulate the Financial Handbook as well as review and rewrite the current procedures.
  21. Provide advice and updates the Head of Finance on any irregularities of concerns about invoices or any other financial matters.
  22. Analyzes financial differences, solves, and discusses the complex ones, which demands a higher hand decision to the Head of Finance.
  23. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Finance.

Job Requirements

  1. First Degree in Accounting or Finance or relevant discipline
  2. Membership of a recognised professional accounting body – CFA, ACCA or ICAN
  3. Minimum of 5 years work experience in an Accounting / Finance with at least 2 years of experience in a Senior Accountant role. Retail experience is an added advantage.
  4. An extensive experience in Ledger Accounting and Financial Reporting.
  5. Good financial and accounting knowledge, including understanding of finance best practices and IFRS/ International Accounting and Financial Reporting standards.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  7. Ability to work with little or no supervision
  8. Ability to train and manage staff.
