Job Description

  1. The Senior Manager – Finance.FibreCo acts as a chief financial advisor and strategic finance advisor, providing financial support to the MD and senior management while overseeing the financial operations of the company and making decisions to improve the overall financial health of the company.
  2. The role ensures the financial growth, profitability and viability of the organisation through building confidence in the investor community, driving organic and inorganic growth, appropriate administration of the business, effective working capital management, and proactively managing the financial performance of the company
  3. The Senior Manager – Finance.FibreCo leads the set up of financial systems and structures and assumes full responsibility and authority for operations of the function.
  4. Additionally, leads, coordinates and manages the financial resources, ensuring that operational efficiencies and cost optimization strategies are developed in line with FibreCo objectives, and is also responsible to produce accurate financial statements to report to key stakeholders. The role is fully accountable for consolidated financial and non-financial reporting for the company.

Job Responsibilities
The Senior Manager – Finance.FibreCo will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
Development and Implementation:Cascade the Group strategy to create functional strategy aligned with the overarching business goals, under oversight of the MD/CEO

  1. Ensure effective implementation of the functional strategy by means of providing direction, structure, frameworks, models, plans and roadmaps
  2. Oversee regular review of the functional strategy and roadmap, under oversight of the MD/CEO, to ensure its alignment with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem

Staff Leadership and Management:

  1. Source, induct and manage talent in accordance with legislative guidelines
  2. Continually develop a culture of strong collaboration and effective team working
  3. Ensure open communication channels with staff and implement change management interventions where necessary
  4. Provide definition of roles, responsibilities, individual goals and performance objectives for the team
  5. Set KPIs and provide regular performance feedback through a well-defined and implemented performance review program
  6. Develop and implement a training plan in order to build and develop skills within the team
  7. Performance manage resources in accordance with HR policy and legislation where necessary
  8. Actively participate in leadership team and develop skills of own team
  9. Promote a ‘partnership approach’ to develop strong relationships with other workin
    g groups and ensure adherence to Group governance

Governance:Meetings

  1. Participate and provide input in strategic meetings
  2. Provide inputs & drive FibreCo wide transformation initiatives, elicit inputs from relevant parties
  3. Provide inputs to and ensure adequate risk mitigation and controls in the function
  4. Perform evaluation baseline of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs
  5. Drive approval process from CEO/Group on new initiatives
  6. Dedicate relevant budget for internal projects, post sign-off from CEO/Group
  7. Drive preparation of proposal on change initiatives SLA, policies and procedures

Escalations:

  1. Escalate issues that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact to CEO / Group team
  2. Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery

Function Tactical:

  1. Closely monitor all projects initiated in the function
  2. Review and finalise objectives, targets and budgets for the function, under oversight of CEO
  3. Review key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions, seeking guidance from the CEO as and when required
  4. Develop and manage budgets, where required
  5. Sign-off / make decisions regarding tactical changes and where required seek sign-off from Management

Performance:

  1. Monitor performance and alignment with overall FibreCo strategy
  2. SLA approval and exception performance review

Reporting:

  1. Report on a monthly basis to the CEO relating to progress made within the function and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation
  2. Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects, as required

Budgets:

  1. Manage function’s budgets in line with business objectives, under oversight of MD/CEO
  2. Manage project initiative budgets in line with business objectives, under oversight of CEO
  3. Ensure that the cost of operations are managed, in line with a least cost operating strategy stemming from the business drivers, under oversight of the MD/CEO
  4. Operational Delivery

Functional Leadership:

  1. As the functional leader of the Finance vertical, the role is accountable to:
  2. Monitor and align the direction, strategy and results of the Finance vertical, collectively and as individual work areas in the FibreCo, ensuring that the Group guidelines are duly complied with
  3. Lead and deploy an integrated solution development and problem-solving philosophy across the function
  4. Serve on the executive committee (where applicable) and risk committees (where applicable) to align the financial goals to other departmental and organizational objectives

Delivery Leadership:
As the delivery leader of the Finance vertical, the role is accountable for the following work area outcomes:

  1. Oversee implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by Group Finance team and ensure compliance with the same
  2. Implement governance to manage the consolidated FibreCo Finance strategy, budgets and financials, with guidance from FibreCo MD/CEO
  3. Lead, control and establish governance to manage the consolidated FibreCo Finance strategy, budgets and financials
  4. Cascade the Group FiberCo budget, analytics and reporting framework in the Function
  5. Deliver results under the guidance of the Bayobab Group CFO abiding by all the set directives and regularly reporting compliance
  6. Act as chief advisor and strategist providing needed support to the FibreCo MD/CEO with respect to the identification of financial risk and long-term financial effect of business decisions (through Financial Scenario Analysis)
  7. Representation and management of specific FibreCo related committees – Risk & Audit Committee, Capex committee
  8. Monitor & Oversee maintenance of integrity of the financial data, financial processes, procedures and financial controls in line with established accounting processes, regulations governing the business and internal control policies
  9. Implement forecasting, budgeting and financial planning process for the FibreCo and ensure all budgets adequately reflect periodic resource requirements and revenue estimates for the business, communicate the same to the Group
  10. Responsible for the review, approval and / or update of business plans, budgets and forecasts of the function
  11. Advise and provide support for the resolution of issues in forums such as Board meetings, Operational Review, etc
  12. Support the FibreCo MD/CEO with funding requirements where required by liaising with external Financial Services organizations as may be required
  13. Manage cash flow of the company ensuring generation of sufficient funds for day to day operations and CAPEX spend; monitor actual spending and ensure financial compliance with all business transactions
  14. Ensure that accounting KPIs are reported to Group FiberCo regularly and any deviations from the budget are reported
  15. Review and Approve all finance & accounting transactions and ensure processes/procedures are effective and comply with regulatory and statutory requirements and Group Finance policies and directives
  16. Ensure adequate training is provided on tax reporting cloud systems
  17. Ensure effective implementation of tax risk management strategies and review all computations and submissions in alignment with the risk framework
  18. Manage all transfer pricing controversies and disputes, resolving/escalating issues, as required. Additionally, oversee preparation of transfer pricing documents for all intra-group transactions and receive sign-off from group team
  19. Review monthly financial reports and budgets for the Group Exco to support the financial decision-making process
  20. Oversee the implementation of system automation and digitization programs, margin improvement programs, cost control tools (including budgetary controls) to drive cost efficiency improvements across the organization
  21. Oversee local procurement activities and resolve issues, if any. In case of business-critical challenges, escalate to Group Finance team
  22. Oversee the treasury operations and controls and ensure adherence to reconciliation control practices, business standards and regulatory compliance
  23. Other duties, as assigned.

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Accountable for the morale, performance, and development of the function’s human capital
  2. Cascade and socialize work structure processes to enable adoption by the team
  3. Coach and mentor direct reports
  4. Ensure assigned team is led, motivated, and rewarded to achieve KPA’s
  5. Ensure that coaching / mentoring programs and personal development plans are in place for all staff members
  6. Ensure effective management of diversity among personnel in the function
  7. Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions, in collaboration with HR
  8. Motivate and manage individuals to perform at the highest level, especially in terms of delivery and meeting target deadlines
  9. Possess the authority, presence, and integrity to command respect from colleagues and from external contacts
  10. Provide career development for direct reports (counselling, coaching, identifying key performance areas, career planning, and goal setting), in collaboration with HR

Job Requirements
Education:

  1. A minimum of 4 years Tertiary Degree (B.Sc. Accounting / B.Com Accounting, or a related discipline)
  2. Professional qualification – CA /CFA/ACCA (required)
  3. MBA or Masters (advantageous)

Experience:

  • 7 to 10 years relevant experience in a similar position with at least 5 years in a managerial role
  • Experience in wholesale/infrastructure/B2B Telecommunications sector/ industry will be advantageous
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding emerging market
  • Successful track record as a senior management professional in delivering exceptional business growth & financial results
  • Proficient in driving company’s financial performance, business growth and platform monetization
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding emerging markets
  • Demonstrated track record as a relationship builder.
