Job Position: Interior Designer
Location: Lekki, Lagos

Job Description

We are looking for artistic, detail-oriented candidates with good interpersonal skills for the position of an interior designer.

The interior designer’s key responsibilities include visualising and sketching design plans as per client goals, sourcing products and materials, determining costs and inspecting construction to ensure alignment with design specifications is met.

You will also be expected to comply with the regulatory environment around inspections and building codes.

Good interior designers can think creatively about the use of space, colour and movement and will draw on other artistic media for creative inspiration.

They will also be effective communicators with the ability to persuade in communicating a design idea.

Job Responsibilities

  1. An Interior Designer may work for a variety of clients, from homeowners to corporations, so their everyday duties vary depending on their current client and the firm they work for. Their basic responsibilities primarily involve:
    • Visiting job sites to analyse space availability, design needs and the purpose of the space
    • Attending client meetings to understand the design needs and client preferences regarding interior styles and colours
    • Creating initial design sketches, colour themes and ideas based on client requirements and space availability
    • Getting approval from the client before creating CAD designs and detailed briefs for workers and supervisors
    • Hiring contractors and vendors to implement design ideas, such as Carpenters, Painters, Plumbers, Electricians and Artists
    • Overseeing the buying process of all raw materials and items required to complete the project
    • Arranging client visits and keeping everyone involved in the project apprised of its progress
    • Ensuring project completion within the allocated budget and timeline

Interior Designer Responsibilities:

  1. Outline client design objectives.
  2. Conceptualise and sketch design plans.
  3. Determine the cost of completion and project requirements in the budgeting phase.
  4. Set a timeline for the completion of an interior design project.
  5. Source materials and products included in plans.
  6. Create ‘mood boards’ to sample your design vision.
  7. Utilise computer applications in the design process.
  8. Inspect the design after completion to determine whether client goals have been met.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in interior design or related field.
  2. Portfolio of design work.
  3. Project management experience.
  4. Experience with computational design.
  5. Highly creative, imaginative and artistic.
  6. Excellent communication skills, especially regarding communicating an artistic vision.
  7. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Illustrator, SketchUp or similar design software.
