Job Title: Head, Finance and Operations

Job Location: Wuse II, Abuja (FCT)

Job Responsibilities
Management Accounting:

  1. Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  2. Manage outsourced functions
  3. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including managing the organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  4. Oversee accounting operations of the company and its subsidiaries
  5. Create an organizational structure within the accounting department to facilitate the achievement of the department’s short-term goals and long-term objectives.
  6. Manage and mentor junior personnel in the accounting department.

Transaction:

  1. Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
  2. Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
  3. Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
  4. Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
  5. Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
  6. Maintain the chart of accounts and manage GL for accuracy.
  7. Management of tax- VAT, WHT, PAYE. Liaise with the company’s tax consultant, auditor, and regulators for efficient tax management.
  8. Advise and liaise with Operations on transaction postings to ensure that the correct GL.

Financial Reporting and Budgeting:

  1. Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual management account for management and regulators.
  2. Issue timely and complete financial statements.
  3. Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report.
  4. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
  5. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
  6. Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
  7. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  8. Provide for a system of management cost reports.
  9. Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  10. Ensure that financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  11. Publish complete and timely financial statements to company executives, shareholders, and the board.
  12. Account for any budget variances and report significant discrepancies to management.
  13. Recommend benchmarks for the measurement of company financial performance goals.
  14. Responsible for the filing of quarterly and annual reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Treasury:

  1. Understand, manage, and supervise all aspects of cash flow.
  2. Forecast daily cash requirements and execute daily financing decisions.
  3. Manage all aspects of In-house investment portfolios.
  4. Manage long-term and short-term investment strategies.
  5. Determine the Company’s goals and risk tolerance.
  6. Determine the Company’s tax position and the applicability of taxable/non-taxable instruments.
  7. Assess risk/return trade-offs in transactions.
  8. Assess performance benchmarks and recommend changes when warranted.
  9. Review and recommend changes to the investment policies based on the market conditions.
  10. Prepare or monitor company’s various cash flow forecasts and perform financial modelling.
  11. Evaluate, develop and implement cash management systems to optimize efficiencies.
  12. Understand and manage appropriate accounting procedures and processes.
  13. Manage relationships with financial service providers.
  14. Evaluate alternative long-term borrowing strategies and make recommendations in accordance with the capital structure guidelines.
  15. Recommend, implement and maintain process improvements.
  16. Provide technical and other support for mergers and acquisitions and other projects as needed.
  17. Support and participate in the Organization’s Strategic Plan activities.

Processes:

  1. Adheres to SLAs and communicates appropriately to internal clients.
  2. Ensures that all procedures and controls are fully documented, fit for purpose, appropriately communicated and adhered to.
  3. Ensures procedures are compliant with all relevant regulatory and legal considerations and the team is properly trained to carry out such responsibilities
  4. Understands, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business.
  5. Oversees customer support processes and organizes them to enhance customer satisfaction.

Operations:

  1. Comply fully with the relevant Anti-Money Laundering regulations and report promptly any knowledge or sus picion of money laundering activities to the relevant authority.
  2. Coordinates with internal departments to ensure that daily work meets organizational standards.
  3. Liaises with superior to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals.
  4. Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors/Bankers.
  5. Translates the strategic goals into operational plans to achieve the required targeted growth.
  6. Reconcile monthly activity, generating year-end reports, and submitting same to management.
  7. Maintains archival and financial administrative files.
  8. Manage company’s accounts to ensure sufficient liquid funds.
  9. Ensure that accounting requests are resolved and communicated in a timely manner to internal and external parties
  10. Daily reconciliation of all internal ledgers to ensure accuracy.
  11. Ensures timely resolution of all client complaints in line with the agreed turnaround time.
  12. Keeps records of all company’s fixed assets and ensures industry standard is maintained.
  13. Responds to requests to implement on a timely basis all internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Compliance:

  • Provide regulatory reports to compliance department for rendition
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree with 8 – 10 years work experience.
  2. Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting standards- IFRS and IAS
  3. Use of EasyBank Application
  4. Strong analytics and problem solving skills
  5. Vast across accounting and finance spectrum- Financial, Management, Tax, Audit and financial investigation
  6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites Word, Excel and Access.
  7. Able to work well in a team and on own initiative.

  9. Excellent interpersonal skills
  10. Energetic and with sound decision making skills
